Hi there

Looking at going with Compass for an ISP for the olds, They are in the Compass zone so substantially cheaper, Just a quick question about power outages etc, Do compass provide battery backup for when the power goes out like when you are on the wholesale network? and if so does this cover POTS or does it include DSL too?

Hi there,
thank you for your interest in Compass broadband and homephone services. Just to confirm that the address you are enquiring about is definitely in the Compass Zone, can you please PM this over to me?

In the case of a power outage, Compass does not provide battery backups for phones or internet. If your parents are using a regular telephone that doesn't rely on power, the line will still be active for use.

Hope this helps address your query. If anything else, please feel free to PM or reply on this forum. Kind regards,

Ryan@Compass

I think the OP is more concerned about the power supply backup up for Compass's gear in the Telephone exchange, rather than the stuff in his own house, of which the usual issues apply with every telco.

*Completely guessing* As Compass rent rackspace off Chorus in their exchanges, I would assume that this includes power, and I would assume this would be supplied off the same UPS & generator as all of the other gear in the exchange, as this is what would happen in a normal datacentre type arrangement

Thanks NickB. That certainly makes a lot more sense.

If that is the context of the OPs question, then yes, both POTS and DSL services have backup power.
