Hii

So this will be my first post here on GZ.
It is ofcourse because I am having issues with maxnet.

So, im into FPS like MW3 and currently am on the DashMX/128k maxnet plan.
First off, I dont know what speed the connection "should" be, it just says maximum speed on the maxnet website, (no indication in Mb/s)
What I do know is im getting around 1.6Mbits downstream, and only 0.08Mbits upstream
My ping is around 80ms within NZ using speedtest to the nearest exchange. Internationally it is 360ms MINIMUM. (Sometimes even over 1000ms)

Needless to say, every game I play I have the absolute worst ping and sometimes cant even move, or it jogs me about..

Just wondering, is this actually maximum speed? Since Maxnet explains absolutely no where on the site what speeds I should be getting, I have no way of knowing, All I know is other competitors are advertising 10Mbit connections for similar prices.
And we have contacted maxnet, they have suggested buying a new modem, which helped a bit. (Speeds used to be even worse!)

What speeds should I be getting with DashMX?

Thanks!

MX/128k simply means "whatever your line is capable of downstream, with a limited upload speed of 128k".

Depending on what operating system you are using on your PC you could be limited to around 4.5mbps with that 128k upload.

Post up your modem status page line states, you may have a line issue

All 128k up plans should be grand fathered by now, I'd recommend you change to one of their newer plans with full speed (FS) upload for modern gaming.. so a FS/FS plan rather than FS/128k.

ADSL2+ line rates (up/down) are primarily determined by your distance from the local exchange or cabinet and quality of internal house phone wiring.

1. Change to FS/FS plan
2. Get a master splitter installed: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=96226

So it could be the wiring in my house?
How would one know whether that is where the problem lies? Does attenuation rate displayed on my modem status page have anything to do with it?

Also, i just checked the members centre, It appears our plan was changed in february to just "Maxnet Broadband 40Gb"
So, its not actually listed as DashMX/128k anymore, although im sure it does have 128k upstream from the speedtests ive done

Doobious: So it could be the wiring in my house?

Yes, number 1 cause of slow broadband. If you are in Auckland or Waikato, I can install master splitter.

Doobious:  Does attenuation rate displayed on my modem status page have anything to do with it?

Yes, post your downstream + upstream, line attenuation and noise margins. These will be in the router under ADSL line stats or something like that.

They sometimes forget to update your line profile, so could be so.

PM/Email me your exact address if you like and I can give you an idea of your potential speed you should be getting.

Thanks
Fraser
