Well I dont know what to say...

I have just signed up to ditch Xtra, move to Woosh, and all today my downloads have finally picked up...
Still no where near what I used to get before moving to the Go Large plan and being unleashed, but far better...

For the last 3 weeks on Go Large, I have been downloading on average around 20-50kb....with rare bursts up to 100kb...
Now downloading consistant 100-250kb all day...with bursts up to 300kb

Its better, but the ol days when I was on the Xtra Go plan before unleashed, and I haddnt yet broken my 1gb quota, I would constistantly download at around 1500kb to 2000kb...thats what I want back or better...

Bearing that in mind, the switch stays, see what Woosh has to offer!

Interesting to see that just so happens that when I get better download speeds, there seems to be some sorta problem with Xtra's website and I havent been able to log onto the usage monitor all day...

Hmmmm......

Is this a case of, they are having some sorta problem, this problem has disabled their controls such as p2p shaping, and I'm getting what I should be as a result?

Hmmmm......

Funny, that exactly mirrors my own findings with Woosh, the only difference being I normally got 300ish, though it did dip for a day or two before surging back up to 300, 400, and now for the first time ever 500

I spose other factors I could consider, is I have made some changes recently, playing with my settings...
Downloaded the latest version of Shareaza, still in beta, as it includes UPnP, and have enabled that in Shareaza and on my router...

I have also disabled my router firewall, yet still run Windows firewall...I did this as I was playing with Azureus, and read in the documentation how to fix NAP/firewall problems, and it couldnt connect to the port when doing the test...even after enabling UPnP, but disabling the router firewall fixed that and I got all green smily faces.

I also downloaded and ran a small program called DR TCP, it basically allowed me to make some small changes such setting/changing the 'tcp recieve window', and turning on 'time stamping'

What the hell all this means Ill be buggered if I know, I just read alota stuff, follow instructions and recommendations and see what happens... Broadbandreports.com is a good informative site, with instructions, tests and programs to download etc, recommended as a resouce by alot of high profile websites.

But I shall keep playing with those settings as I dont like the idea of my router having no firewall protection...

Ok, so here I am doing the 24 hour mish...dont know why, and my Xtra connection just died...put my Woosh details into the router and vola!...quick and easy, no pain no fuss, no downtime...love it!

Anyway, have just done some quick tests of the Woosh connection....

WOW!

So far, the speed tests are far supieror than Xtra's, with Xtra Go Large I never got over a maximum speed of around 1900kb...
With Woosh I have just got 3687kb....ok so my speed has just doubled, thats a nice start...
And downloading a Linux ISO, Fedora Core, 3.2gb file, Xtra I could not get over 20kb...
Woosh was downloading at 100kb for that same file when I just tried then...nice

So there is obviously a noticable difference...

Will let ya all know in the coming days how I go with Woosh more in detail.

Though I'm sure it 'fixed' I can use GB's during peak and I'm not slowed down.
