I wonder where we rank in the OECD for broadband access on aircraft? It seems that our favourite government owned, budget airline is way behind the game on this one. What better way to idle away the 1 hour flight from Wellington to Auckland than with some quality internet access.

I suggest we unbundle the pilots and engines.... 10 points if done in mid air.

It took AirNZ 10 years after every other airline to get seat back screens. Don't be so impatient! :-)

Seriously though... Connexion by Boeing is closing doors, and until the end of 2006 the wi-fi service is free. Another company is coming to fill this space, but not with the same "reach" as Boeing, of course.

The problem is not in-flight wi-fi, but the fact that those airplanes have no power outlet (except in business class) to keep a user connected for a long haul flight.

I hope Singapore Airlines will continue offer broadband inflight under the new company that will over Connexion.

If you haven't heard, Singapore Airlines' new inflight product offerings will include in-seat power across all seats in all cabins. Plus, I don't think one will need a laptop to use it, because as far as I understand, their new seatback TV are powerful enough to do some wordprocessing, e-mailing, and web surfing. Cool And if you ever find it a hassle to type with the small handset, there's a USB port so you can plug in a keyboard - not sure if SQ will provide the keyboard or not.
