My brother is fortunate enough to live on williamson ave in grey lynn auckland, where UFB is available.
I told him about the free offer from Orcon. I'd love him to get it just so I could go round and borrow it whenever I felt like it!
His flatmate is the chief geek of the house though, and had already enquired before the offer was released, and said that it's "too expensive to get installed".
I've searched a bit, and am fairly sure it's not supposed to cost anything...
But if that's what the retailer tells them, they can't do much.

Sorry I don't have more info, but if I can, I will gleen some more if I meet his flatmate.
such as, who they are with now (vodafone?), did they ring more than (vodafone?) one provider, did they mention any specific non standard install reasons for the costs?
(They are 6ish metres from the footpath to the front door.)

Vodafone wouldn't be in a position to comment since they don't yet offer UFB services.

As for the costs - they are very clear. For most people a basic install will be free, but if you're wanting major work done on your premises wiring or networking when you will have to pay for it.

Vodafone are doing trials - which does include a free install - not sure if all areas are being included though.
