Cool.. I just seen this new product from Draytek..

unit will take fibre, and provide Voice ports, Wireless & 4 lan ports.. ipv4/ipv6 ready.. and is 1000Mbps all in 1 device

the ONT handles the fiber connection... this box would be useless correct me if im wrong...

Not much point. That product looks like it is pitched to a vertically integrated fibre network operator. Here in NZ, UFB is open access and regardless, the service in almost all cases is delivered on a plain old RJ45 connector.
A $50 TP Link router will connect easily without any special fibre adapters required.

The LFC takes care of the fibre interface.

Couldn't this device be used as the RSP's RGW similar to Xnet's Cisco/Linksys WRP400 or Orcon's Genius?

Not if it only has an upstream fibre interface, and judging by the size of it and the way it's being pitched I'd be surprised if they put both optical and electrical upstream interfaces in it.

As others have pointed out, you just need an Ethernet WAN router. Just make sure it has sufficient routed throughput to actually make full use of the fibre connection. We generally recommend the Vigor2130 for UFB, 900 Mbps @ 100 sessions.

Yes that what I was going to get.. until I saw Vigor1000.. but as I found out.. OTN is provided.. so Vigor 2130 looks good

The ONT is closely coupled to the ISAM (or OLT in GPON terms) it connects to. There will not be much variability in ONTs initially. This could change as interoperability between vendors increases. The ONT effectively becomes part of the physical install. Whoever owns the ISAM will have to own the ONTs as well. The ONT is not residential gateway in the same sense as a DSL router. For example, one design goal of the ONT is to deliver service from completely different service providers on the same device. So you might have Provider-A for data and Provider-B for TV both connected to the same ONT. Provider-A and Provider-B might both have residential gateways/set-top boxes in addition to the ONT. In the home, the ONT is effectively a media converter from your wiring to the fibre uplink. The ONT does have a lot more intelligence than this, but this all it will appear to be in the home. Other differences are the ONT does not provide DHCP itself and the other ports on the ONT will not operate like a hub/switch. DHCP functionality will have to be supplied by the service provider or through a separate home RG.

**Edit: The current ONTs will not provide WiFi. You will need some sort of WiFi gateway in your home to use it. WiFi on ONTs is planned for the future.

I have a Draytek 2920 for my UFB at home - its fantastic - has dual ethernet WAN ports, so I can load balance my Wireless PtP link with the UFB connection - and supports v6 - I think you can even chuck in a 3g USB stick and use that as a 3rd failover interface if you want.
