[Expletive removed] telecom. SCREW THEM! Just got a phone call from them saying we still cnt get broadband. bloody hell, if i cant get it, then why say i can on website and ask me to order. I'm so pissed off right now. argh.

I live on Telephone Rd, in Hamilton. It's like 6 minutes from Rototuna, but NO BROADBAND!! bloody hell. Xtra Wireless broadband doesn't support our area either. I've been on dailup for years, and our dailup speed is for some reason, halved. So I only get 24.0kbps each time. Downloads at 2.1KB/s. And that's a full speed. Normally downloads at 1.4KB/s. I seriously can't take this anymore.

I was just wondering if there are any solutions for me getting broadband in my area? Satellite is so [Expletive removed] expensive and you only get like 5GB. Im a really heavy internet user. With my dialup I get around 2GB a month. Mostly because I can't be stuffed downloading stuff for 1 whole week. I'm seriously so pissed off...

I don't care how angry you are with Telecom there is no need to use such language. Its offensive.

Read the forum usage guidelines and don't it again. Consider this your only warning.

Unfortunately that's what you have to expect living in a rural area. ADSL will only work over copper up to a certain distance, shouting at Telecom won't change that.

Broadband options are available for many rural areas including satellite, 3G and Extend wireless. Unfortunately like a lot of rural people you seem to demand the perks available to those living in a metropolian area and want to pay the exact same price. Welcome to the real world. Just be grateful you pay the same price as everybody else in the country for a phoneline because you should be paying twice as much to cover the cost of maintaining the service.

What is it with some of you people? Someone who lives in the country wants to be able to access broadband. Why shouldn't he be able to access a service that townies take for granted? Is he being unreasonable to want to access what you access? Is broadband just the preserve of townies?

No but if you live in a rural area then you should expect that services will be more expensive and in some cases unavailable because it is not worth the investment to roll out the infrastructure required.

Where has all the investment that Telecom claimed to have put money into gone? I guess Telecom's threat of cutting back on rural investment isn't really going to scare anyone now is it - there has never been any investment in rural areas to start with anyway.

But Telecom has an effective monopoly with the local loop. Monopolies need regulation to ensure they do not abuse their market position. Perhaps we could extend your logic to cover, say, law and order. Less crime is committed in the country, therefore, people who live in the country should get a corresponding reduction the their income tax to cover the reduced cost of providing adequate policing.

This thread is not to discuss Telecoms investment in rural broadband (the answer of which is answered a bit above anyway) or monopolies etc, instead it is to discuss rural broadband solutions. As pointed out earlier there are options:

* ADSL (if its within range, offered within area etc)

* Satellite

* Wireless providers

* Cellphone networks (1X, EVDO, GPRS WCDMA, HSPDA etc (not all of these are 'broadband' and may not be offered in ones area))

This topic has gone too far off track with those last two posts, which couplied with the second post 'monopoly' claims, has derailed it. Therefore its getting locked.
