So the Chorus trucks have been buzzing around my neighborhood (central-ish dunedin), we had a UFB roll out scheduled for 'By September 2012' according to address checker, now that has been pushed to 'By March 2013', what a dissapointment!

Is this normal?

I feel for you buddy. We had our cabinet down to be upgraded to ADSL2+ June 2012 and then the damn earthquake happened. I think that they should come back and straighten the damn thing I mean it looks terrible on a lean like that. In the meantime we have to struggle on with a paltry 10m down, rather than the 17-20 I was looking forward to being only a few 100m from the cabinet...slackers

What Chorus calls UFB Year 2 runs from June 2012 through June 2013. I guess they are free to rearrange the order they do areas within a year, etc.

The nature of our build programme means that we will have some cabinet dates rescheduled within a build year, that's why our online map says dates are indicative only. We're building an entirely new network and many things can affect the deployment effort (supply of materials, unplanned events and even the weather).

What it means for many students who live in Dunedin, who run on yearly leases is that due to the conditions of the providers 12 month contracts, we wont be able to cost effectively join fiber in March. Snap at least I think requires a 12 month contract to be paid in full, without the opportunity to break contract, so it is not cost effective to join. Other providers may be different, I hope.

I was really excited as we have a flat full of guys who like to watch movies, game and use skype etc all at the same time, 10Mbps is becoming just not enough bandwidth.

And now we will be responsible for fitting the install bill since I was under the impression all standard installs were free until the end of this year?

Yes, unless you are going to be in a place for over a year, you will get mauled by the break-of-contract fee. This contract is understandable, though, when you consider the cost of the installation. Reckon mine would have been over $3,000 but it cost me absolutely nothing (provided I stay in this house for 22 months!!).

The 12 month term is mainly due to the fact that the RSP is going to be billed for 12 months min from the LFC

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Hi,

FYI just did a Speedtest here at 02:25am (fast time of the day) and got 4.53Mbps down/0.84Mbps up....wireless connection...Laurie

WIN 7 64 bit, NVidia GTX560 .....
