Hey there,

I've got a client who just moved to New Zealand from Norway 2 weeks ago. He's very tech-illiterate and wants me to find the best deal for him. Price isn't too much of a concern.

As far as needs go, he's moving to a house in Glenfield on the 17th and wants good broadband and a landline. He also wants to be able to call home a lot, most of the "international calling" packages offered by Vodafone and Orcon don't include Norway.

I'm not sure if he wants Sky TV or not. Doesn't seem like something he'd be interested in.

I looked into Skype, but their Norway options seem limited. VoIP services are acceptable as long as the quality is good. He just wants something that works (and I don't want to be over there every other week sorting things out). An iPhone app would be a bonus. He bought a calling card but the rates were still pretty exorbitant.

As far as mobile goes, his employer bought him a Vodafone Prepay microSIM for his iPhone 4. He doesn't like this (he'd rather a bill just came). It seems like 2degrees offer the best on-account rates for data and calling.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

I use Skype to ring few international countries. It works great and I have a local dialing number as well to ring from landline instead of having to use PC. Also use the same subscription on Windows Phone Skype app. Skype has a great iPhone app.

Norway (landlines) is dirt cheap from the looks of it. 5 euros/month for unlimited calling and 15% discount if purchased 12 months in advance. Does not include mobile calling but there is a separate package for that. For 6 euros, you can ring 24 European countries landlines including Norway

E
dit - Oh and I have Telecom broadband + Telecom phone line. I recommend either Telecom, Vodafone or Snap.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Cheers, I had missed Skype's subscription package. Just going to recommend Telecom Total Home + 2degrees On Account + Skype Unlimited World + Skype to Go. Seems like it'd be easiest for him not having to worry about using a complicated phone or having an unreliable internet connection.

I'm using Snap Naked DSL ($87pm, 155GB Data, free unmetered youtube/google) with Slingshot italk for voip(italk a bit, $11pm, 500 minutes to many countries around the world, including NZ)

http://www.snap.net.nz

Slingshot seems to have changed their website so can find out of Norway is on their list. But I'm sure it is. Give them a call to find out. $22 pm gets you a italk a lot plan which gives you 1500 minutes of calling.

Cheers for the suggestions. The only reason I recommended Skype is that they offer the Skype To Go service where you can give them your number and contacts numbers and they generate local DDI numbers. E.g. 09 123-4567 when called from your phone will immediately dial the number in Norway, as well as a separate access number you can call and then dial on the number. He is very much anti-technology so I feel simply doing this and adding the numbers to his iPhone contacts will be the simplest solution.

I would go for Snap as an ISP and then you have super easy access to ADSL, VDSL and UFB plans with out having to change providers. Their support is awesome and they have fairly good sizes plans at a great price.
I would then just use 2Talk or Xnet for calling. 2Talk is cheaper and probably all you need if he is tech savy enough.
