Hi i've been on adventure for about 5 months but am tired of getting put back to dial up speed (i do alot of downloading). Is go large a good solution to this? Is there any isp that offers a better service than go large?

Go Large suffer speed limitations but if you can handle that in exchange for an unlimited amount of data then it's not a bad deal at all.

I switched from Adventure to Orcons FS/FS 15GB plan for $69 per month. It also comes with $10 per extra 5GB overage charges which are great. So no dial up speeds, just pay for what you use.

But if you do a large amount of downloading then maybe Go Large is for you.

Im going to have to disagree with the above reply, im also asuming you havent read the threads in the recent months about go large, i myself switched to go large from xtras 5gb Explorer plan back at the end of october and i have found the service terrible.
Like yourself i was a heavy downloader mostly in torrents and watching streaming video so the unlimited data cap was too much to resist. To be frank, i have found the service terrorable as have many others... the problems ive experanced far outway the benifits. recently my usage from the 3rd of november to the 3rd of december showed 12gb total up and down, not because i was only a light user but because this was the only usage i could get out of it. Im not completly against go large, some people find they have far better peformance then what they previously had but personaly i find that the risk just isnt worth it.

just my $0.02

Don't assume anything. Check it again: bradstewart is a moderator here, and I am sure he read all recent threads about Go Large.

I never said Go Large was a great plan. But given that a large number of people are no longer having problems it makes a viable alternative if you download large amounts of data. There are people on here who download well in excess of 100Gb per month on Go Large. For $49/month thats a damn good deal. Sure your speeds aren't great but thats the trade off for unlimited data.

If you are on Go Large and aren't getting results that are satisfactory then switch to a pro plan. We only seem to hear the horror stories because nobody congrats their ISP when things go right since its expected of them. But I bet there are plenty of happy people on Go Large.

Yes I did endure the month or so of Go Large rants. Sometimes I wonder if a month or so at Guantanamo would be easier.

Actually my comment wasn't for brad but the threads author, i made that assumption because with the information now available i myself would not have switched to the go large plan.

Like i said, i'm not completely against go large it has actually been an improvement for some. i was just providing my opinion so that joseph can make an informed decision.

What plan are you on Zanerkin. My mate at work managed to change his ports and get a max of 100 kb on utorrent off peak. now he only gets 30 or nothing. Will go large work to its potential off peak on bittorrent and limewire???

I am currently on the go large plan, but will most likely be changing to orcon or woosh. With ports correctly forwarded i can max you about 10KB/s download speed and 15KB/s up with utorrent, as for limewire i have yet to reach a speed over 15KB/s

I have just changed from the Adventure plan to the Go Large as Xtra help desk had stated that the speeds are the same.
So today when testing my speed from the xtra line test 1mb http test I found the speed was total crap

Whats with this?
Any suggestions

I have been a loyal follower of Xtra and telecom for that matter (much to my discuss)

dialup is much the same speed as what I'm geting now with this so called go large plan
I'm begining to think Xtra has done another scam here with making me believe the speed is no different

One very brassed off soon to be anti telecom/xtra customer

Any thought welcome

Aussat, I suggest you escalate it with the helpdesk... There should be a procedure for escalating excessively slow speeds (particularly if you are getting ~64kbps speeds)like this as well as a few checks that they can do.
