A couple of streets over from me in Auckland they've started digging up the pavements and have a bunch of green pipes laying about (green=telecoms right?) Is there any way to find out what they're doing? e.g. maybe a section of the Chorus website covering current work like this? I know about the SAT and UFB maps and sadly my area is not in or remotely near any of the indicative UFB years 1,2 or 3 coverage. Just curious really :)

Sounds like the UFB rollout. Green pipes crossing over out of the ground waiting to be connected?

Afaik green pipes = power. At least that's what I see in our area where they're undergrounding the power lines. The blue pipes are the ones to watch out for, they're the ones with fibre :)

Orange = power
Blue = water
Yellow = gas
Aqua = telstraclear or velocity
Red = microducting

Yeah I'll do just that if I go past and see someone likely to ask; I only pass them on the way to and from work and haven't seen anyone actually "onsite" at those times.

Cbfd: White (in old areas)/Green = telecom/Chorus
Orange = power
Blue = water
Yellow = gas
Aqua = telstraclear or velocity
Green/ Red = microducting
Purple = telstraclear

And to the person that said blue pipes is fiber. No. The fiber itself is blue and that is what you would have seen being pulled in to the ducting.

All of the fibre ducting in hamilton is Red Huawei pipe.

So it seems to be a mix of colours for fibre... (Green and/or Red)
Saw at the weekend they're using Red in Rolleston

Green pipes for fibre installed near our place too - sadly only for the school down the road. We will only get faster adsl as part of the RBI sometime in Oct next year - doh!

Green is the standard colour for all Chorus infrastructure.

Orange is only used for power and would never be used for telecommunications infrastructure by any telco.

I still haven't gone past when anybody was there to ask. But it looks like they're just redoing the sidewalks and curbstones and maybe just used the opportunity to lay pipes for the future. We're not in a UFB year 1,2 or 3 - Looking at the UFB maps we're pretty much right in the middle of the UFB free triangle between Newton, Onehunga and New Lynn, lol.

EDIT: Only other thing I notice is that while the street I live on has VDSL, if I plug a random address on the street they're putting the pipes into the Chorus SAT it is covered by VDSL. Is chorus still rolling out VDSL infrastructure or is everything foccused on UFB now?
