I'm currently with Telecom who charge $87.55 PM for 50GB and a phone with caller ID, and wonder whether to swap to Orcon who charge $89 for 60GB and a Voip phone.
Is the international speed and general service likely to be the same with both as all the international traffic goes through the same Southern Cross Fibre?
Having spent a long time on the phone this morning to Orcon I'm disappointed that their sign up staff struggle to understand English, is this the same when you need to call support? I dislike overseas call centres with technicians who are truly foxed when your question doesn't appear on their script.

I did everything online when I signed up to Orcon. I do all the support online too (or on Twitter)

The performance is great. $200 a month for 1000GB and home phone? Can't go wrong...

my concern is whether the Genius box will play nicely with my SPA3102 > Truecall > DECT phone, the latency from that lot means the SPA3102 struggles to cap the echo with POTS calls. It should work but the folks overseas struggle with the concept that I'm not signing up for a 12 month contract if I can't test it first.

Although I may appear biased due to my employer. I would never compare Telecom to any VoIP offering in the way of service availability and reliability. And worth reading the Orcon forum to see the quality of the internet and support received..

Just say'n

Decided to stick with what I know, just changed to the Telecom plan, it still saves me compared to the total broadband I was on. With no fixed term I can change if something better comes along.
Thanks for your help!

It vary's depending on the amount of US iTunes/Netflix we use.  Which mainly depends on when my partner is on holiday or not (she's a teacher).

I don't use much but it's still cheaper for 1000GB than I was paying for 230GB.

see post above.  if you are using 500GB or less (and it sounds like you are) then $200 per month is a lot more than you need to be paying

I assume you are aware of the new Orcon Genius unlimited plan for $99 with VOIP phone line and unlimited NZ calls?  I have just swapped from XNET Fusion as I was paying $200 a month for about 100 GB a month.

Im on 1TB plan atm with Orcon, max I have used is 400GB.....  but think the max at my line speed I could do is approx 600GB. (approx 15mpbs down)

Id be impressed to see someone on a similar connection hit 1TB in 28-31 days :)
