Hi all can anyone tell me If line noise has a dramatic effect on your DSL speed? I rang Xtra today to question why in the last 2 weeks my downstream sits around 350 to 380? upstream sits at a consitant 160, Although the guy I spoke to was helpful and suggested it might be the exchange or thier end, he did say however there was a lot of line noise in my area, so that could be the problem?...I understand that if it was and I understand congestion why then does my speed seems like its capped I mean it never goes above 53kb/s at any time or day? Oh and No I`m not on GO LARGE I`m on EXPLORER:)
Yeah it does. Attenuation and noise and stuffz like that is the killer with ADSL. Things that influence it are how far away from the phone exchange you are, what types of cables your phone line travels accross and if your neghbours are blasting the warez next door.
Essentially the 'bad things' for adsl generally add up to noise on the line.
