Hi

I have finally identified my issue with high Attenuation on my ADSL2+ connection..

When I connect direct to ETP.. I can only get approx 2mb down..
However, when I use my modem on neighbours ADSL2 connections.. I can get 8-11Mb..
Combined with fact I have some overhead wiring that doesn't look like external Cat3 cable..
I can deduce I need to get my leadin cable from road to ETP replaced..

I have some questions...

Will telecom/Chorus replace & Install cable for free.. expecting a no answer here?

Do Chorus/Telecom supply leadin cable/tubing?

Or I could get in a contractor? anyone have contractor names? its 100m from road to house.

How about the other way around? their modem on your line

Possibly but what about the rest of your circuit back to the cabinet/Exchange (that could also have a fault on it)

telecom - no - thay arent the network company / Chorus - yes if it is faulty or below standard

before u dig is only if you need to locate an existing network cable in the ground (your property - free / outside property - changes apply)

You could get a contractor to lay in a new service lead/conduit laid inside your property as per the requirements you qouted above / have a trench dug and arrange for your provider to request a new conduit/lead from Chorus (there are changes involved) / In either case you would have to pay to have your line changed over from overhead to underground

You need a fault to be logged. When the faultman finds the issue is with the lead-in it will be replaced/fixed free of charge as it is up to Chorus to maintain that piece of wire. Don't just ring your ISP and tell them you want a new lead in because they will say it will be $150ish. Is it all on poles? If it is underground and not in a duct it might be harder to get them to replace it as you aren't without service.

If you wanted to trench and lay the duct yourself you can buy it from the likes of Mastertrade/Corys Electrical.

Chorus did some work..
- first altered settings at exchange
- come out & found dirty connections
- and found 1 phone with bad earthing

So all good now.. got 35db Attenuation.. and 12 SNR margine.. 10mb connectio rate... 8mb download speed...

Now I am getting interleaving switched off and lets see what happens with gaming
