Thanks the waste of today's bandwidth, bits and bytes to Stuff: "Name vanishes after provider switch".

Barry Sherwood has lived at the same house and had the same phone number for the last 10 years.

But according to the latest edition of the White Pages, he does not exist.

Sherwood, of Waimate, switched from Telstra Clear to Kinect late last year, after nearly 10 years with the previous provider.

''I kept my same phone number, it was just the fact the other company offered me the better deal,'' he said.

''So imagine my surprise when I discovered the latest issue of the White Pages did not have my address or number. They didn't tell me that would happen.''

Why in the name of $deity the paper would contact the old provider, seeing this is something to do with the new provider?

Logic does not prevail in the world these people live. Anything goes in print.

Last time I saw my white pages it was being used to raise something up higher, think it was my IP cam from memory.

Many people over 50-60, and probably most over 70-80

Surely vanishing from the White Pages is a good thing. Who would want strangers calling them? In my opinion, the new provider did the right thing by respecting the privacy of the new customer.

More of a problem for businesses I suspect who may only have a free listing, and it gets removed after changing ISPs. Not sure if they get compo for an omission these days.
The way I read this, it was a problem with the new ISP, not the old one, and they should have been asked if they want to be included in the phone book/ online phonebook. I still use the online version to find a companies number.
