If you are fibre-connected with OTHER THAN Telstra (i.e. Chorus fibre) and are willing to do a couple of specific tests (not onerous or difficult) please PM me with your name, general area of NZ and contact details.

Preference is for FS/FS (100/50) plans, but anything considered...

Thanks

Thanks to all the volunteers so far.

Just to clarify, the test will consume approximately 2GB of your cap, so if you're comfortable with that, I'd be happy to hear from you.

At this stage we are looking at scheduling the tests tomorrow (5 February)

Who are you and what do want to do this for ?, would probably help if you explained exactly what you are wanting to achieve and why I would suspect.

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink

I am a consultant with a company working on a UFB trial - we are trying to troubleshoot download speeds by comparing the speeds people get with various ISPs.

I have collected some information from the OP, so it should be good to go.

Did the OP watch the presentation on the NZNOG 2013 about the reasoning behind the speed issues on UFB? Mainly to do with ISP's rate limiters and its effects on TCP?

Unfortunately, no, I did not. Are there links to papers that I could look at?

There aren't any UFB speed issues.

The issues that were experienced by a couple of ISP's initially are solved. The issues that existed on the ISP side of the handover and are well documented.  It's essentially nothing to do with the UFB network.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Sorry, you are wrong. There are big issues with the UFB burst sizes in some LFC networks. The ISP's worked around the issues, but the fundemental issue is with the LFC, not the ISP.

Perhaps you should read the NZNog presentation also.

The NZNOG videos are meant to be here but haven't been posted yet:
http://www.r2.co.nz/20130124/

I think the presentation was on the last day, Friday - I only caught a snippet of it. I only caught the bit where he spoke about the rate limiters so Sounddude may be better to explain (if he is allowed to!).

here is the response from the guys who maintain that page with the vids:

They will be available soon. We always have a 10 day job right after
NZNOG, so the footage is still sitting on the recorder disks. The job
has just finished, so we head back to base tomorrow and catch up with
editing etc.
