I have 3 outlets around the house. 2 are located in the original part of the house while the 3rd is in the "newer" part of the house (was extended in 1987, original house is from 1910s).
A few days ago I decided that I wanted to use one of the outlets in the old part of the house - where I'm setting up the home office (we recently moved in). Well, it wasn't working (Tried both phone & ADSL).
So I open up the outlet (2 wire) and found the blue/white & white/blue wires on slots 1&4. Is this correct or are these supposed to be on 2&5?
This particular outlet has been installed so that it runs to a wardrobe, then up the wall to the roof space and then towards the other 2 outlets (who are virtually in the same area, give or take 500 mm, but in different rooms.)
I also found heaps of used PTC wiring in the garage (at least 10m) including an old post office outlet with capacitor. No idea where it was used.
So this is what we have:
2 wire that's working (in the newer part of the house):

2 or 3 wire? (older part of the house):

2 wire (that was not working):

So my questions are:
How do I get the outlet to work? What is the correct slot position?
What's the story is the older outlet, in particular with the smaller box underneath it and the cable running on the side?
Any help is appreciated.
