Anyone know if the exchange (and cabinet) upgrades for RBI are suppose to be ADSL2+, fibre feed? Wondering as I have a couple customer on one of these exchanges with upgrade complete in December, but still on ADSL1.
PUE PUKETURUA PUE 05PUE1C 2 Q2 Dec-12 Dec-12

And more customers to follow on other exchanges too.
My concern of course is peak-time congestion if they are still on ADSL1 with limited backhaul.

Most of the RBI cabinets we are installing are fibre-fed and contain an ISAM (hosting ADSL2+ / VDSL2 line cards).  It is helpful to remember that under RBI Chorus has committed to deliver >5Mbit/sec to certain users off these cabinets and >1Mb/s for users further out.

The cabinet you refer to (PUE) is a fibre-fed cabinet, with Ethernet backhaul and contains a brand new ISAM with ADSL1, ADSL2+ and VDSL2 capability.

If your customer is experiencing ADSL1 service performance then the likely reasons will be;

i.   PROBLEM: They are too far away from the ISAM
     FIX: Unless the home is a caravan - nothing will fix that

ii.  PROBLEM: Dodgey house wiring
     FIX: Install a Master splitter at the SDP and run a dedicated line to the modem from the splitter. (I expect you have this is hand!!)

But - if they live within ADSL2+ service footprint and premises wiring is OK, then;

iii.  PROBLEM: Stone/Steam-Age PC & O/S
     FIX:  Upgrade PC and purchase Windows 7 or 8, new distro of Linux or a product from Mr Jobs shop.

iv:  PROBLEM: They may have an ADSL1 modem - so the linecard will only sync at ADSL1 speed
       FIX: Update the modem to ADSL2+ modem

v.   PROBLEM: They may have an ADSL2+ modem, but for some reason the line profile was not updated when the customer's port was cutover to the new DSLAM. (This is rare but technically possible).
      FIX: Log a fault with the ISP.  The ISP helpdesk should be able to check the DSLAM port profile & get Chorus to reset/rebuild to ADSL2+ (again only if the line length will support this service).

btw - if customers live close enough to the cabinet they will also be able to get VDSL service providing their ISP offers that service and they have a VDSL2 modem.

I've noticed in some of these cabinets they have ports marked 'long range' ports. Whats the deal there? Just set to ADSL1 or actually something clever going on?
