Moved into a new house, Looked around for phone jacks, found it... Now... Should I get someone to look at it because well... I see 2 cables disconnected and the jack just hooked on via cables and a nail.

I'm not even sure if it works but i'll see after I get services connected to my place.

Edit: Its the only jack in the house.

It may well work OK, but it certainly isn't the best installation in the world. I'd wait and see what happens when services are connected, then make the call about what needs to be done.

What is printed on the front of it in the smaller square?

If it has a "M" you will need to replace it with a modern 2 wire jack...

Well I'll see when I get services and see how it holds out, I might just leave it if it works to be honest.

A bit strange that this is the only jack in the house, yet there looks like two different cable pairs going into that box i.e. the one we see with the blue and green and the one behind it.

Are you sure its not feeding anything else?
Any alarms in the house?

My understanding is the blue/green pair is the one commonly used for ADSL and the white/orange is the voice pair.

It maybe going to the neighbours place, it is a unit after all but more or less. No other jacks, No alarms.
Here's a better look of the cables behind the jack andI didn't resize this.

I'd say this is probably the master jack, but i cannot say for sure....

Theres also i high chance that there was another jack i nthe house at some point because as you can see above, the bottom cable comes in to the jack, and then another cable comes out of the jack near the top.

This is also known as a daisy chain setup. if you have a sky dish attached to your house, if there is have a look near where the satellite cable comes out, and look for evidence of an old jack being near there

No sky dish but it doesn't matter. I'll see when I get the services connected.

Alrightie, Had some bumps along the way but I'm connected now on Snap VDSL now. Looks like this jack works fine altho the other day the top cables fell out (The Daisy chain?), Doesn't matter anyways as i'm getting 40/10 on my line now.

No point getting a Master filter cause there is only 1 jack in the house and i'm guessing that daisy chain was to the glo-bug recharge box or something left by the previous owners of the place.
