I have to say that this UFB is completely underwhelming, and as soon as my contract is up I will be going back to copper. Either Orcon are rubbish (and by all accounts they are) or this whole UFB is a giant turkey, but I never had it as slow as I have it now, it is just like good day on dial up, yep that bad.

Yeah I really doubt it's the UFB product at fault.

My UFB with Snap is fast! Maybe it's just Orcon?

Yup no problems up here in Whangarei with Uber.

Have you actually logged a fault with Orcon?
What about showing us some speed test results from a different servers here in NZ and international?

UFB as a service is very fast (from what our customers have been saying) - I'd recommend checking a few things on your side.

1) Can your router actually handle this traffic? Some gateways don't like more than x connections and will have trouble keeping up.
2) Is it maybe your WiFi? Have you tried this over Ethernet?
3) What plan are you on? 30mbit or 100mbit?

If all the above yield the same results, call your provider, they'll need to look at this from their networks end. Post some speedtests (bare in mind that Speedtests are not an actual representation of your actual real world speeds and you could even be testing to an overloaded server) - Something else you can try is downloading a Linux torrent (serious) like Ubuntu, this should be able to max out your line, give it a few minutes then post a screenshot.

Are you serious?

Why on earth did you join with Orcon?

If I were you I'd take them to the disputes tribunal , get all your money returned and contract cancelled, then join with Telecom or Snap.

Hi Enozkeeg

Have you logged an issue with the helpdesk? Can I grab your ticket number?

We have a huge amount of customers enjoying good speeds on UFB. So there is something wrong and we would love to resolve the issue for you.

In reply.

1 - It is their kit (Orcon Genius), there is bugger all connected to it. (two laptops, and when I decided to vent last night just the one.)
2 - Again their kit, maybe I should do some wired tests at the same time.
3 - 30MB plan.

It is only intermittent, but last night I was looking at some pictures (imgur) online and it was slowly rolling in much like the good old days of dial up...

No I haven't raised a ticket, maybe I should.

Wireless is a complementary technology to Ethernet with literally 1001 things that can cause issues.

When you've connected your laptop via a wired Ethernet connection post back on here whether this has resolved your issues. If it has the process of diagnosing your wireless issues can then begin.

My 2c as I was in the same boat.

I struggled along with sub-par speeds for almost 6 months. Turns out my Genius was faulty. The problem was intermittent. Sometime it would be fine for days/weeks. Other times I would have to reset the Genius 6 times a day.

The help desk only ever asked me to reset the Genius which fixed the problem for a short time. Eventually I got some better support through Geekzone. My speeds are now consistent but I still find overseas traffic is slow(ish) depending on time of day/night. IM pretty happy at the moment with Orcon.

My advice is that if a Genius restart makes things speed up then ask for a new Genius modem!

Copper still there as an option. I will have a closer look at it and test with cat 5, but I never had any problems with my old copper and wireless setup.

In some CBD and urban environments 2.4GHz WiFi is now pretty much a lost cause with so much interference it's virtually unusable.
