My cousin is due to get UFB in a year from now, and is in the middle of a knock-down-rebuild. They're going to be running a new trench for the phone/power/water/gas, and I was wondering if it's possible to get the fibre lead-in installed now (even if we get the electrician to do it, not Chorus).
The sparky went off to the wholesaler today to get the cable, and came back with an OM3 patch lead... I told him to take it back.
The reason for doing it now rather than in a year, is that it may be fairly difficult to get the cable in to the comms cupboard after the walls go up.
Hi, you should never install a leadin (copper or fibre) in such a manner that it connect be replaced or upgraded in future. Can you not run some 25mm conduit for the building side of the installation, and standard Chorus 20mm ID conduit for the outside section with a draw wire in both.
Pretty simple, just follow the chorus lead-in guide (PDF) and they take care of the fibre when the day arrives.
If you really need to, then install flexible conduit (with a draw wire) from the ETP to the comms cupboard. TBH even that is a bit unnecessary if you have 20mm holes in your noggins for the phone cable and access to the ceiling space
Use hard conduit and bend it in place to suit. Even flexi conduit can make things really difficult. Don't bend it in such a way that there are sharp 90 degree bends. They should be sweeping. Get the sparky to install a 20mm electrical conduit from the ETP across to the comms cabinet and everything will be fine. But again, don't let the sparky use pre-made 90 degree bends as these aren't suitable for fibre. it is best if they just bend some straight pipe in to a nice sweeping angle. If your sparky can't do that, get a new one.

I'm planning to do a similar project and run about 12 metres of the green telecommunications conduit out to my front fence (once I feel motivated enough to dig the trench).
