Hi,

As per subject. I need a new line installed to provide naked vdsl, 
There is no existing connection from the road.  The line will terminate in a cabinet which will house the modem that will be 2 odd meters from the roadside demarc . I intend to trench and lay the conduit and cable all 3m :-).
The modem will be connected to ubiquiti gear to feed the vdsl to my location. 


What is the cheapest or recommended process to achieve this. Would I ask for a new line from my intended Isp "Snap" 
Or do I contact Chorus and ask for a new install.

Well you can't just connect to a Whisper cabinet.

You need to connect via the RLG. So your private cabinet will need to be in a position to do that. Look for either a grey pillar, small oval pit or round pit with a copper terminal in it.

Then it is just a case of installing a service lead. This is a standard price of something like $110 if Chorus do it your you can do it yourself as long as it is to spec.

Once the cable is in just simply request a new connection from Snap and you will be away.

Ideal first post should have been I have cut the thick blue cable , I am unsure how to terminate the copper lead to it .

have a look @ http://www.chorus.co.nz/file/2689/urban-service-lead-final.pdf for the min service lead specs and dont forget that chorus require a demarcation point on the outside of the building (as per legislative requirements for seperation/demark of network and premises wiring)

Oh it is relatively new, like only the past 20 years or so lol.
It does vary vastly throughout residential properties built a few years ago. Since I have been involved with Chorus and comms it has been a standard though and that is only 6 years now. You often won't see an external demarc in commercial premises though.

Yes they can. They just obviously haven't got the memo. If you can't get it off them perhaps try to find out who the local Chorus contractor is for your area (Downers, Transfield, Visionstream) and see if they will sell you a length.

Do not use any other kind of duct.

The green conduit can also be found at second hand building supplies companies. I've gotten a few lengths of it that way.

You can buy the 20 mm pressure pipe couplings from the likes of Bunnings and M10.

Don't run it yourself. Get a chorus guy to do it for a set fee. Then they maintain it. If you lay it yourself chances are they wont cover it.

Not quite true. As soon as Chorus connect the lead in to the network they will maintain the lead. It is up to the contractor to make sure the lead is up to spec. If it isnt any good they simply wont connect the lead and say dig it up.
Pretty hard to stuff up though. Lay the conduit at least 400mm and there you go.

They will normally complain if someone else has laid it and wont claim responsibility. I've had arguments with people over it.
