Hey guys,
As many know there is a 12month contract apparently from Chorus for a new UFB connection. I ordered one for an office in October last year. It was installed in February and the lease expired and the office shutdown 2 weeks ago. Our Orcon account manager mentioned it was 12 months from installation but after she did further investigation it will be cancelled next month with no penalty after 6 months or so. Interesting!

Yeah have noticed some places will not enforce a contact term if you ask. The good news is that they have also just worked out the churn process, so hopefully people who jumped into ufb with the wrong provider can make the switch.

Don't forget chorus is only a wholesale supplier. You might find orcon chose to pay the fees to keep your business and give you the feelgood factor.

At Steve correctly says - the money comes from somewhere.

Says in the Orcon T&C that early termination 'may' be charged and gives guidlines. As per previous post... its a customer service and satisfaction decision. You didnt tell us if they were already an established Orcon customer piror to their UFB order.

First a bit of background

I'm in a bit of a bind. I live in ponsonby in a rental property. A few weeks aog she had some work done on the house and the company told her that she had 50k work of dry rot that when faced with an independent check they said we maybe 50k. Ok that's paraphrasing a little.  TRhe end result was that the house owners though that if the place did ever need that kind of repair they couldn't afford it. So they're selling.

Righ now to my question regarding orcon fibre install and 12 month contract.
When I had the fibre installed I did so with the owners permission. Which was before they decided to sell. Where does this leave me.
I had full intentions of fulfilling the contract with orcon. I've spoken to the landlady who understands my situation which is nice for her cause I don't.
I haven't spoken to orcon yet . Though I'd get some advice from you guys.

My personal view (and not that of my employer!)

I would talk to your ISP and close the account. They would send any ETC Bill through to you. Which I would take off any rent to be paid as your landlady is breaking the terms of your rental agreement by asking you to move out early.

I thought the ETCs were $200 or similar (although the actual install cost is far higher than that) which considering it's Auckland wouldn't come to a weeks rent.

Thanks for the reply
In the end that's all I can do. Maybe promise that I'll use them as my next internet provider and keep it.
Anyway thanks. I'll keep this thread updated on this.
thanks Brian
