Hey guys,
Have just been hooked up to VDSL2 and was initially disappointed. 8mbps down 7 up after Chorus came and put my master filter in. The technician recommended I gave it a few days to see what happens. Since he left I've gone up into the ceiling and have discovered what may be wrong. For some reason the wiring comes from the etp, goes to a jack at the other end of the house and then the jack which vdsl (and the filter is installed behind) has been dedicated to is daisy chained all the way back to the point right near the the etp. So therefore the master filter is useless and the run of cable to it is extremely long, not to mention the wiring is really old (looks like black 2 core tps). I rung my provider and they have let chorus know what I've found. Problem is I waited a month for chorus to do the install and don't want to wait any more.
I'm more than capable of running a new feed directly from etp to the master filter but am concerned about a few things before I go ahead and do it. Here are my questions to you:
-Can I run just any cat5e or cat6 cable or does it have to meet a special standard?
-Am I legally allowed to remove etp cover and terminate the chorus line with this cable?
- lastly are there specified connectors or can I just use scotch locks in the etp
Thanks for taking the time to help me in advance
