Currently, I'm in Hamilton with roughly 15Mbps ADSL2 with Telecom which I'm very happy with, but am moving to Te Awamutu which I know from living there previously that their broadband is not that good. I remember a speed of ~2Mbps and lucky enough UltraFastFibre have stated on their website that Fibre will be connected on the street I'm moving to on 1st October.

So, I've been talking to a couple of ISP's and can't seem to get the information I'm looking for. I'm leaning towards having Snap! as my preferred ISP due to price and the modem/router they supply and I've heard nothing but positive things, but back to my concerns..

My first concern was that upon speaking with Snap about getting Fibre installed they told me the copper wires would be removed, but another ISP I talked to said this should NOT be the case as Chorus own the copper lines and so UFF should leave them untouched. I guess this is just a thing Chorus do when installing into a Chorus network. This is important as I'm going to be renting and the more information I can give my landlord the better as potentially I could move out and the next tenants may want to, for some odd reason use the copper line for their phone and/or internet which would require a fee to get reinstalled I'm guessing?

Second, the installation is normally free right? If I move to another house and need to get connected I'm thinking this would cost and if so what is the average estimated cost of this?

Third, I can use any ISP I like right? The reason I ask this is because when initially talking with Snap enquiring about getting this setup, they could not give me any information if it was available or not and told me they can only get information on Chorus networks, but the UFF website says it is available on 1st Oct and Snap is included on their list of Retail Service Providers, but when going through UFF's site on getting connected on their page of Providers for Te Awamutu, Snap isn't listed.

WorldNet is listed and the only one on that page who seem to have pretty good pricing. My only concern with them is the lack of information on their website and the modem/router they provide doesn't seem to be nearly as good as the one Snap provides. Also, they state that the only thing they will 'restore' back to how they found it during installation is grass. Anything else would have to be the responsibility of the land owner which I thought was pretty crap to be honest especially as Snap stated they would leave everything looking pretty much untouched in most cases.

Also, can I buy my own router rather than using the ISP supplied one? I really like Linksys/Cisco and would like something with dual band simultaneous wifi and Gigabit ports. What router features would I be looking at to make this possible?

I hope some of you can shed a little light on these things so I can stop going round in circles and move on with getting this setup and I'm very appreciative of any help or advice :D
