As a desperate geek on an ancient copper line that maxes at 4Mbps, I've been looking at various websites seeing if we'll eventually get UFB, or even VDSL. The Orcon address checker says that yes, we will get fibre, but there's no date yet, but the Chorus map says we are out of coverage zone. This is 10mins south of Hillcrest in Hamilton. The map also says that fibre isn't available in Hillcrest, but I know quite a few people who definitely do have UFB connections. Is one of these checkers inaccurate, or am I just out of luck?

Maybe the area is not covered by Chorus for UFB but another provider

Oh really? I was under the impression that Chorus were the sole providers. Would you happen to know of any other tools I could use to see if that's the case?

Thanks

Chorus dont have the contract to do UFB in the Hamilton Area that is why your not on their map - Ultrafast Fibre do your Area - http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/

Yes, you can put your address into: http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/getting-connected/address-finder :)

That says I'm outside the coverage area too.. Do you think the Orcon checker just defaulted to saying I should get it because I am in the region that UFF provides?

I'm not sure if the UFF site talks about what areas are planned to have it, at some stage in the future.  Would you care to PM me your name and address (I work for Orcon) and I'll get it checked out for you tomorrow to get a firm answer?

Cheers

Dan

Edit: This might help - https://koordinates.com/layer/4226-ufb-initiative-ultra-fast-fibre-limited-central-north-island/

I'd say if you're outside that blue blob, you are out of luck - that being the case we shouldn't be saying you'll get UFB eventually so I'd still like to check it out, if you don't mind.

Hi all... OP has sent me their details, it looks like they're out of the UFB area so I'm not sure why they got a different story from us.  Anyway I'll be following it up internally -- we don't want to be giving people false hope!

I'm in the same boat in Glenfield . Would love ubf or VDSL but outside the area (according to the maps) and no time for installation.

Yes, unfortunately the UFB rollout never included boats.

Agreed here with Coffeebaron, all houses especially those rural should have a master filter. Depending on who your current provider is they should be able to run a line test in SPM and tell you how it looks. If you are with Telecom I could do that for you.
