Hi there, anyone have a link to convert from NZGD 49 to typical n/s/e/w GPS style co-ords? I'm wanting to work out if the exchange near me will be getting an upgrade to a whisper cab.

What excha area are you looking at ? - PM the details if you want

BTW an Exchange would never be converted to a whispher cabinet (unless its very very very small )

Thanks guys. I'm looking at the one on the corner off mapara rd and blueridge. I'm 99% sure it's not an exchange sorry, it's one of those small boxes. I will try that link tomorrow.

That TPO/BP? It's getting upgraded to RBI in June 2015, it's a Conklin at the moment.

Sorry chap :P you've got 4mbit shared between whoever is connected to that cabinet, your only options in the meantime is seek out for a wireless provider that serves that area or going to Mobile Broadband else telling your neighbours to stop using the internet. You'll get your fast internet in June 2015.

It is what it is I suppose. Do you have any idea what kind of speed we will have after upgrade? Ie constant good speeds? We can get up to 4mb on speed test off peak.

Man I feel your pain - reminds me of the bad old days with Telecom's 'Big Time' and how the speeds were so slow pages wouldn't even load. At such speeds is it possible to just throw up an antenna outside and hook it up to a 3G device to use mobile broadband instead.

If it's a RBI cabinet you'll get up-to 5mbit, but they're rolling these out with ADSL2+ and VDSL line cards so depending on your line and plan you should get ADSL2+ or VDSL2 speeds, this really depends on what kind of cabinet they decide to give you.

There is only one kind of RBI cabinet that Chorus are deploying. (In some places we are upgrading existing "active" cabinets but the end result is the same).

The RBI cabinets we are deploying are smaller versions of the Urban FTTN cabinet we have deployed over the past 7 years. See previous post for cabinet details http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=49&TopicId=115420). They contain a power supply, cooling, batteries and an ISAM DSLAM (same equipment we use in urban area).

The existing ASAM or Conklin DSLAM equipment is decommissioned and removed.

We populate the new DSLAM with both ADSL2+ cards (for long rang connections that will sync to ADSL1 or 2+) and VDSL cards for customers within 800 metres of the cabinet (which sync up to VDSL).

But none of this will change your broadband experience if the backhaul remains as it is today. Hence the delay in until 2015. By then we will have fibre available at the site so your broadband experience (taking into account distance of your property from the equipment) will be the same as an urban customer. i.e. If you live next to the cabinet you will be able to take advantage of VDSL services.

You will need to upgrade your plan with your ISP once the cabinet is installed.

One question is tpo/bb that specific cab on mapara road? Because in the spread sheet it mentioned an upgrade on the 12/11/13
