After looking around the Geekzone forums I can't really decide on what service is generally better for me.
I like to game of course, host a server from time to time and I would like to start streaming but for me to do that at a much better quality I need a real decent connection and plan.
I'm currently on Vodafone and we're thinking of changing(unless they can convince me otherwise in which case good luck). So I'm asking what's the better ISP these days?
My needs are:
500GB data plan or higher(unlimited would be the best)
VDSL if possible fibre isn't being built in my area for a long time.
I am in semi rural Northland.

What options have I looked at?
Orcon Unlimited but from their website it's not VDSL(correct me if I'm wrong someone from Orcon)
Telecom VDSL(500GB might break if I can't stream for periods of time)
Compass Unlimited (but again no VDSL)

Give me your best opinions on what is the better deal.

(small edit since I forgot)
Telecom has already quoted from one of their online reps that VDSL is possible at my location.

Are you sure you can even get VDSL where you are?  I'd suggest calling one of your ISPs of choice and confirming before using that as a decision factor :)

Carry on then :)  I do know we (Orcon) do have VDSL in the pipeline, although no exact date at this stage sorry :/

And I wish you could confirm it. Because otherwise I would be joining the Orcon bandwagon. :)

Who else should I check with? Chorus? any other VDSL provider?

Any ISP can tell you whether you'll get VDSL2, but they're all going to be looking at the same data to determine this. Does the Chorus Coverage map tell you whether you're within VDSL2 coverage?

Checked map. Apparently not.
Oh well VDSL looks like it might be out of the picture but I still want to hear from anyone offering unlimited plans. Guess I'll have to deal with <1mbps upload speeds.

I know there have been a number of posts with people having issues with Orcon (including from myself!); but generally speaking as I customer I find their service is acceptably swift; and I'm on the unlimited plan.  The plan I'm on also offers free national calling, which is a bonus; and my teenage son hasn't ever complained about gaming lag on either his PC or the xBox; so I guess that side of things is ok too (not really my thing!).  Genius call quality is usually pretty good (although to be honest, 90% of the inbound calls we get these days seem to be telemarketers and/or "technical support for my computer").

YMMV, of course; but you can consider this ramble a "+1" for Orcon.

Full flavor media has been good to me a few hiccups early on but they have been stable for a while now. Look them up, Jessie and the team give good personal service :)
