According to the Chorus maps I'm not getting UFB in my street until 2016.

However it also states

Business fibre available
Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)
Broadband > 10 Mbps

What does "Business fibre available" mean? Doe sit mean if I'm a business as opposed to residential customer then I can get a fibre connection now?

It means you could get a P2P fibre/HSNS connection.

There is nothing stopping you as a residential customer signing up, but you obviously need to be aware of the costs. P2P fibre costs are significantly more than GPON (but both existing P2P and UFB P2P are the same price) because you have a dedicated fibre port vs GPON which is shared, and your headline speed is a dedicated CIR rather than UFB which is an EIR (best effort).

Plan for monthly costs of ~$700 upwards for a 20Mbps symmetrical connection and install costs of anywhere from $1k - $10k which will be charged at full cost. You don't get a subsidised install like UFB where somebody else is absorbing the $2k - $3k for an average install.

To me that sounds like you are in VDSL coverage, which sounds like the best thing you have on offer now.

If you message me or email me "pl at telecom.co.nz" I could say the exact date (or if) you are getting UFB.

But VDSL from the sounds of it is available now, so I would go for that (if I could get VDSL, which I can't :(... )

Business Fibre is what Steve said... Serious money for dedicated fibre broadband.

Thanks for the replies. Yup I'm currently on VDSL and was just curious as to what was meant by "Business Fibre".

Looks like 2016 it is :-)
