Telecom have told my client they need a over copper phone line  associated with their fibre. WTF? And sure enough they have made a hash of it.

The idea was simple change ADSL to fibre, keep static IP.

Telecom have installed fibre, and installed a jackpoint with a new phone number thats unused.
Static IP got moved, with some gear rebooting, wasn't a big deal (yay)
Then they disabled ADSL, and the phone line it was on, (fax line, also used for some dial up to bank connections, lol)
But apprently thats ok because the client now have a new line (different #) and telecom have redirected the old number to it.

Well its not ok, because the jackpoint sits unused in the switch panel cabinet, its not conencted to the patch panel, and doesn't go to the various wall outlets through the office.

But more importantly why was it even required to start with?!

Copper is required to deliver a voice service as Telecom's VoIP offering isn't yet available.

As part of the install existing jackpoints will be rewired as required. You would have been able to specify at the time where these were required.

Hey, Vodafone is more than happy to provide a Naked Fibre connection.
Yes, Telecom do keep the PSTN in action, I think its great for people that use medical alarms or have house alarms etc... :)

Was the Original Phone line and ADSL service with Telecom?

If it wasnt then the instalation is exactly what happens when a UFB connection is installed for Telecom's use

If it was then the Telecom rep who put the request in for the UFB connection didnt do their job in just requesting a fibre connection 

- in any case (at present) most commercial installs are fibre only with the exisiting copper services staying as is

BTW Telcom didnt install the fibre connection - I would suggest Chorus did

Client was a business with several lines with telecom, and telecom adsl. Anyway new issue smtp traffic from several places (australia & uruguay) never arrives. However the great bulk of email is delivered without issues. I am wondering if telecom do some kind of filtering? the uruguay servers are blacklisted by 1 service (not the aussie ones), but the server doesn't subscribe to that particular list, and telecom 'business hub' or whatever, have their own secret blacklist, and god knows what else they do to molest traffic.

Looks like a router issue, anyone used a Cyberoam CR15iNG with telecom UFB?
