In the end I disabled the 802.11n and just enabled g on its own, that allows me to disable WMM on the belkin, which in turn appears to fix the issue.
Is this just a bad router, or snap, or my lack of understanding of something here? Any explination of the link between WMM and MTU size would interest me, or was that just coincidence?
Tore up the drive today over 5 hours to fix the cable!
