Okay guys, i'll try to summarise what happened from the day i put UFB installation request through snap, up until today.
Hopefully you guys will be able to tell me what on earth is going on.

The timelines itself are not really accurate, but somehow close,
now.. I requested UFB connection through snap around June, after seeing my address was available in snap website, location bracken ave, takapuna,  multi-dwelling units (6 units).
They told me the consent process would take approx 3 months, they will let me know when they have it (even though they didn't, i found out after calling snap about status update, this was roughly 4 months after the initial request)

One day, around end of Oct, i found bunch of dudes were digging the driveways (I had no call or notice from either chorus or snap), so i thought they were doing somethin else, until they had installed a rounded plastic disc outside, then i found out it was for the fiber.

Two days later i got a call, he was saying that the connection is ready to go, and he proposed that two days from that day technicians will come and set it up, and i say sweet.
15 minutes later he called me back, turns out there is a problem, and the appointment was cancelled, and up to that point he was not able to give me any completion date. When i asked whats wrong, he didnt know either.

November, was pretty much exam prep for me, and after the exams had finished i gave em a call (Visionstream plus snap), turns out there was something wrong with the ribonnete ( sorry i dont know what was it, sounded close like that, even the cust rep from snap have no idea what it was), and they have to order some parts for it.

After calling visionstream for about 2 weeks (by the the time it was already close to the end of nov) they told me that some parts are finished and hopefully by 16 of dec they will be able to implement the fix. I called visionstream today, hoping everything is okay. Turns out....there is something wrong with the fiber cable on my side of the street, again i am back with no completion date and they might have to dig the street again to reinstall the cable, but the guy said hopefully it wont come to that.

oh boy....

why on earth, that it is you dig the entire driveway, without actually checking the connection first? or even before then, have it tested ? why did it come to this? How on earth i waited 6 months half a year, an entire semester plus the end of semester break, just to find out that the fiber cable is dysfunctional?

How the hell, that you told me that on the 16th of dec the fix will be implemented and to find out the cable is broken?what is the correlation?

sorry geekzone dwellers, i know it is very hard to understand, i'll try to answer any of your confusions, in return please help me to make sense to all of this...

Hi, I have no sympathy for you..... good things take time...

I ordered Fibre from vodafone last year and yes it took 6 months before i was connected.

you are getting a $3k-4k worth of installing charges waived because our govt is playing nice ATM,

suck it up and you will have UFB when they finish the build, trust me its worth the wait.

my advice, contact your ISP once a week till its sorted.

-Steve

While it does seem that a couple of things have gone sour during the build saying that they should have known there was a second issue is very easy to say but not so simple in practice, the mention of ribbonet implies that it is an air blown solution which means there no fibre on the street (or at least not for your house) to test you are essentially delivered a straw as part of the build work and then the provisioning tech will flow fibre from the FFP or ABFAT to your door and complete the dwelling entry and ONT install. If it was an issue with the feeder or a lack of spares who's to say that this was  apparent at all at the time of the initial inspection/build.
With virtually no detail on what the actual issue is anything anyone says here is purely speculation.

speculation:
Could be lack of spare feeders in FFP/ABFAT
Could be Damaged feeder fibres/tubes
Could be bad records
etc etc etc

Glossary:
FFP - fibre flexibility point AKA a cabinet.
ABFAT - Air blown fibre access terminal (kind of like a mini cabinet, has a few splice trays)
Ribbonet - a duct containing many individual tubes/straws in which fibres are blown down with air to customer addresses.
Tube/straw - a single micro duct tube inside the larger ribbonet/duct
ONT - optical network termination

On a side note - Snap shouldn't be blamed, not their fault.

You're closer than I am. I don't have a date for fibre availability. In a central Auckland suburb.

I disagree, took us 2 weeks down in Welly. Orcon even gave us 6 weeks free. Pretty sweet IMO and why should others get any worse?

I'm in the "worst" neighbourhood on the North Shore...and still can't get caller-ID.

There have been 70+ people in Wellington who have been on waitlists for 12 months+ for both UFB and copper installs because of an access dispute over access to Wellington Electricity poles. I believe this has been resolved in the last couple of weeks.

MUD access is a nightmare area right now, the fact you've actually had work done in itself is actually a very positive outcome, there are plenty of people in your situation who still don't even have a timeframe for installs.

Half the problem with MDU's is the "designers" at Chorus who think they know the best way to run ducting/fibre through a building and won't accept anything else.
It's a lot of work but they really are making it difficult for installers..

I created this thread on Dec, and now is March.

Just got off phone from vision stream, the news is that there were mistakes when first designing the fiber, and now they need to redesign the whole thing again....and it could take up several months.

Not mentioning if there is another consent process that I have to go trough again.

Don't want to brag or anything but we've had our fibre connection for about 3 & 1/2 years now. :D
Thanks NorthPower & UberGroup!
