Chorus has been installing UFB in our street for a couple of months but having watched them installing UFB in the streets near us they have put in those green pillboxes but our street is different , i think . At the bottom of the street this went in

i presume this is a Cabinet for the UFB  or is it something else. is it there because the next nearest cabinet is 4-500 metres away and do they still have to put those green pillboxes in .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yep that's a UFB cabinet.

If you haven't got a green pillar outside your place but they have been up your street chances are the microduct is direct buried outside your property. They do this if there is turf. If it is asphalt they put in the pillar.

the pillars are just a further aggregation point, e.g. you could have 24F coming from cabinet to the pillar and then out to individual customers from there (like a mini cabinet expect at the moment without splitters in them).

Thanks, You have just answered a question of mine.

UFB ducting is installed in my street But is not ready for connection yet. (hopefully Feb or March). During the install phase they installed 3x single fibre branch ducts off the main 24 fibre duct next to my driveway. The 3 branches were left poking out of the ground next to the old round grey telephone pillar, They were then cut and sealed at ground level then the cut ends disappeared. I thought the installers had forgotten to replace the old grey pillar with a new green one. Glad to know that this was what was meant to happen. Grey pillar is in the middle of a grassed area.

Access terminal, simply connect the overhead leads coming from houses into the rest of the network. They perform the same function as the copper ones.

Yep that is a Standard UFB Cabinet (Still hasnt had a name put on the front)

The green pedistals are no longer installed (only replaced if damaged) - if there is at least 50cm of turf beside the boundary the ends of the single tubes are buried - If its hard surface (concrete or asphalt etc ) the a hand hold in installed (round lided pit) with the ends of the singleways rapped around inside / They may install a grey DP over the end of a multiway duct as a temp hold, this will be joined later on to a multiway duct up a row etc. and the joint will be buried.

Were the service leads are aerial and not buried, these terminal boxes are installed up on the poles to house the end of the microducts (back to the cabinet or ABFATS ( Air Blown Fibre Access Terminal). A seperate aerial microduct is then installed, as required to each house being provisioned, and joined on to the preinstalled ducts inside these terminal boxes.
