Hi

A question for anyone from Chorus here. I have a customer who is less than 300M from a new roadside cabinet which already has VDSL customers connected to it.
The local Chorus techs confirm my customer is connected to this cabinet (BL/K). The coverage map only shows ADSL available at this address and adjacent addresses despite the proximity to the cabinet. My understanding is that the D side cables from the cabinet feed these customers directly , ie not through other cabinets or taking the round about route anywhere.

Any thoughts?

any idea what your customers line attenuation is? can work out how far along the scale there are from there.

coverage maps arent always correct, last place i lived at said less than 10mbit on the maps, it was actually about 5~600M from the cabinet and ran a vdsl line rather happily.

other option is, have you tried getting an isp to do a prequal? see what that comes out as?

Direct distance to a cabinet means very little - you don't know how the MPF routes, and this won't necessarily be via the most direct path.

What is the customer's attenuation? This is all that matters at the end of the day.

silly question, but have you tried putting the address into the pre-qual tools? It sounds like you are just using the chorus coverage map, which isn't always accurate.

Stick the address into the address checker on Telecom, Vodafone, Orcon etc and see what they return.

(we don't have an automated address checker yet, but will do soon)

I wasnt given the address i just found the Chorus gear.
Its usually close enough but its a general guide.

No, not a silly question. I've tried the Chorus site for a start then the Telecom and Snap pre-qual tools. Orcon's pre-qual tool is generating a "enter security code" error and Vodafone's can't find Balclutha at all.
