Hi everyone.
With regard to UFB, I keep seeing things about VLAN tagging being required on the router, or maybe not required for some ISPs, or required only if using VOIP, or whatever the hell the story is. I can't find a definitive guide to this, but assuming it is required, what I'm wondering is whether the Asus DSL-N55U modem/router I already have supports this or not. I have had a good look through the admin interface and I don't see any mention of VLAN tagging anywhere, but maybe it's one of those things that goes by other names? Maybe I need to change another setting before it's visible? I don't know.

So, does anyone know for sure whether this device will be directly usable, and where I would find the applicable settings?

And yes I have googled it, but could not find anything that I found conclusive. Also, I assume that it can be made to work by putting some other device before it, but that is not what I'm getting at.

I beleave the Asus DSL-N55U is only a xDSL modem/router and doesnt have a WAN socket so is not suitable as a router for UFB

VLAN tagging is a requirement for UFB.

Some ISPs can offer an untagged UNI port but you will lose the ability to have a CIR on your connection as without a 801.1q VLAN tag there is no way to have 802.1p tags for the CIR.

As pointed out already the N55U is an ADSL only product so is of no use for UFB as it has no Ethernet WAN port.

Slightly off topic, but does the Netgear DGND3700v2 have VLAN tagging? I know it says it can support fibre...

Well that clears it right up. But what does it mean?

With the latest firmware the N55U can do what they call "dual WAN", the second one being either via USB or LAN port. Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but doesn't that suggest that the lack of a dedicated WAN socket is not an impediment?

It means exactly what I said, I'm not really sure if there is a much simpler way of explaining it. Basically if you can't set a VLAN you'll have no way of accessing the high priority queue (CIR) on your connection.

If an Ethernet port can be assigned as a WAN port it's a start. If it doesn't support VLAN tagging however it's not going to be a lot of help.

Pretty much every residential ISP is giving away a UFB router that they will fully support when you sign up.
