Up until a few weeks ago, our connection was running very smoothly. As of late, if I run a tracert all pings after our modem vary from 25-30ms (normal) all the way up to over 1000ms. The net speed gets a lot worse as the pings increase. This just happens randomly throughout the day.

Changed the modem, filters etc.. nothing has worked so far.

From what I have googled, the line attenuation is excellent - we are very close to the exchange - but the SNR margin varies every refresh from ~9.x dB to 12.x dB. Could this be related to the poor performance that I have been having or is it something to do with the ISP? The modem only disconnects when I tell it to ;) or if the ISP is having probs which is very rare. The data rate pretty much never changes. Good speedtest = 6xxx-7xxx kbps, bad = >300.kbps. Errored seconds are starting to creep up as well as CRC errors which I'm sure never used to.

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 11.5 12.0 dB
Line Attenuation 12.6 9.0 dB
Errored Seconds 230 2
Loss of Signal 0 0
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 268 2
Data Rate 7616 896 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

Any ideas on what I should do?

It sounds like either crosstalk on your line, or some kind of intermittent fault.

One thing you should check first is whether INTERLEAVING is enabled.  Your ISP should be able to tell you.

In your case, it will be beneficial to have interleaving turned on as it will take care of all the CRC errors.

If this still doesn't solve the problem, you will need to ask your ISP to arrange for Telecom to check out the line.  It could be a line fault, a house wiring fault, or a fault with the DSLAM which you are connected to.  Given that you have already changed the modem and filters, those components are eliminated as the cause of your problems.

P.S.  Welcome to Geekzone Smile

Latency FAST FAST = interleaving off FYI.
