Im currently in the middle of having UFB installed at my place. One of the Chorus Techs told me that next month there won't be any more free installs. I hope that is incorrect, since it will be very annoying for everyone who hasn't had ducting installed in their street yet. But you will be kicking yourself if you have UFB available yet you haven't signed up.

Hopefully someone can confirm if what I was told was true or not.

I never heard about that myself. usually the ISP wears the costs. If true. Say hello to 24 month or 36 month contracts with 1k leaving fees.
Given each UFB install can be of excess of 2000.

My address isn't due to have fibre running past until at least the middle of next year, so I'd be in the lurch as far as "free" installs were concerned anyway. A much better model would have been free installs for (at least) a 6 month period in each particular area after fibre was laid in it.

Happy that you are encouraging folks to sign-up to UFB. However the story you have heard is the opposite of what is happening.

Chorus has agreed to increase our Non-Standard Installation Fund by $8m.

Free UFB installs for residential customers will continue to be available.

There was a limited timeframe on the installs, and was already extended a few times.

Unless the $20m bucket is almost out and they now have no choice..

or hes referring to the latest agreement and knows something not publicised. But far as I know it was part of CFH mandate to offer free installations until 2015?

Tech who came to my house a few weeks back said they were now being asked to take measurements over x metres of ducting required, and said it was to calculate costs going forward.

Sounds like they might need to be told otherwise
