Hi There!

I have a customer (Who currently has UFB) who is moving to another premises where the tenant (who is leaving) already had UFB Installed.

What is the usual timeframe for installation of UFB if there has already been an install done, is it possible to estimate?

This could be a tricky one, depending on which ISP the destination person is with.

There are all sorts of interesting issues moving from one ISP to another. It may be solved by now but it's worth asking which ISP they are with as it may be simple, or complex :(

We moved into a place with fibre at the start of this year. We got the keys on Thrusday and discovered previous tenents had fibre but had taken the ONT so we had to wait until the following Tuesday before Chorus could come around. It took them about 30min to install an new ONT and then we could connect.

isnt the idea, for the ONT to stay at the place where its installed?

Interesting, so is all the connection information tied to the ONT? If fibre is available at either end could they take the oNT from site 1 to site 2 and then pretty much be working?

I am not sure if the connection is tied to the ONT. However I do know you are not allowed to take the ONT anywhere, it belongs to the fibre company (e.g. Chrous). I assume the previous tenants at my place where just negligent and ignored the property of chorus sign.

The inlaws had an issue moving into a place which had fiber installed, they were on telecom vdsl before hand and wanted to continue with telecom for phone and internet, telecom swore there was no fibre there only adsl, turns out the copper was removed on fire install, so this meant they could not get adsl or fibre with telecom, as both services require have copper well at least the phone does even if you have fibre with telecom

Nope the ONT is ID with the Address connection info only and will not work if installed on a working gpon fibre somewhere else (without reprogramming - which the chorus techs wont do), so takeing the ONT will do you no good at all (In fact you will more than likely charged with thieft (sp?) for taking it as it is Chorus's and not yours - you sign an agreement saying as much when you agree to a connection)

Hours to Days - depending on the relationship between the winning and looseing provider (Chorus do the change over @ programming level ) - and providing no one has taken the ONT or the power supply. I have to replace power supplies once or twice a month when new tenants move in to previous installed flats/houses - I havent had a taken ONT yet in tha last 2yrs

We moved into a place with Fibre previously installed. ONT still installed (with power supply!). Was previously connected to Orcon, we have connected to 2Talk.

Have an Optical light showing (good sign!)

Taken Ethernet cable from LAN1 on ONT to WAN of Router (Cisco Small Business SRP527W) latest firmware, selected PPPoE and VLAN encapsulation set to 10 with username and password but no connection...

Question - no Chorus tech required to visit house to change settings on ONT? I assume settings for ONT can be done remotely (if anything required?) 2Talk have told me all should be good but still not working.

Have spent a lot of time trying to see what I have missed / done wrong. Have set up ADSL connections no problem but first UFB experience. Any ideas what I am overlooking please?

I moved from Orcon UFB to Snap UFB (in a Chorus area) and was told by Snap I'd need to disconnect from Orcon first as they currently didn't have any proceedure for switching ISPs.

Because Orcon has a 30 day notice requirement and I wanted to keep the amount of $$ I was paying to a minimum, Snap were going to contact me to let me know when I could give notice. But about a week later the Orcon connection stopped working - once I changed from DHCP (which Orcon used) to PPPoE with the snap details the connection worked again. So possibly there is a process now to make this smoother...

I'm using a MikroTik RB2011 - not supported by any of the ISPs but I'm OK to configure myself.

You probably need to do a ppp debug to see if you can see the ppp requests going out and if anything is coming back. Not sure on the Cisco SRP (does it run IOS like the bigger cisco routers?). On a platform like 18xx/28xx/29XX use "term mon" followed by "debug ppp negotiation" and "debug ppp authentication". If the connection has not been provisioned yet I expect you would see lots of pppoe discovery packets going out but nothing coming back. Or if it has you should be able to tell if it's a username/password issue from the negotiation/authentication phase.

From what I can see SRp does not run IOS (I stand to be corrected). Using the web GUI, has Diagnostics, Ping, Detect active LAN clients, ATM OAM Ping.

On the Interface Information page, shows WAN (LAN port 4) TX packets but nothing received (0 RX)

There are a few settings I am not 100% sure about. They are:
Multiplexing = LLC (not VC)
QoS type = UBR (not CBR, VBR_RT, VBR_NRT)
VPI/VCI Auto Detect = Enable
PPPoE settings (left Service name empty, keep alive = yes)
Enable MTU/MRU > 1492 = not selected
LCP Echo-Request Interval: 30
802.1 QVLAN Ecapsulation, VLAN Encapsulation = Enable, VLAN ID: = 10 (this is where I assume VLAN tagging set to 10 as 2Talk requires)
DSL Modulation = Multimode

Any of the above look like causing a problem do you think?

Have you tried using telnet/ssh to see if it responds? interest to see what CLI it has.

Been a while since I had a play with CLI but will have a read up and see what I can find. Will also double check LAN4 is set as WAN port...
