I've just had fibre installed and can't see any need for the old overhead phone cable and Vodafone's "cable" cable (Formerly Teltra). I am now with Snap.

I'd rather get rid of them as they are ugly and I need to keeps trees trimmed etc to avoid them.

Does anyone know who i need to contact to get these removed?

I'm pretty sure Chorus was supposed to remove the telephone wire upon installation.  I could be wrong, but my understanding from other posts on the forums is that you arn't supposed to have the ability to connect both.  Something to do with some crazy council(s) rules.

Otherwise, I'm not sure who you could contact to have them removed.  It's been suggested before today, so it's hardly original...But you could always have an "accident" while "trimming" your trees.

EDIT: Read the Christchurch part...Maybe those crazy rules only apply to Auckland, haha :)

Chorus don't operate ufb in Christchurch. so the installers can't touch their network.
It's enable networks or ultra fast fibre. One of the two.

Call Vodafone on 0508 888 800 to get cable removed.

Spyware: Since when do Chorus do fibre installs in Christchurch.

He said fibre install...My head instantly jumps to the sight of Chorus vans littering the streets, haha.  No idea the didn't operate in Christchurch. :)

TimA: Call Vodafone on 0508 888 800 to get cable removed.


Previously in strong winds the Vodafone cable had come loose from the street pole and was only being held up by someone elses phone cable. It took 4 phone calls (with very long wait times) and a very angry email before anyone dealt with it. Vodafone support weren't interested because I am not a customer, and Downer won't touch it without a request from Vodafone. In retrospect I should have told them to remove it back then instead of just fixing the street pole.

I'm anticipating another frustrtaing battle to get anything done and was hoping someone might know of a better way to get it sorted other than Vodafones helpdesk

When they do the fibre install down here they leave the copper intact as I don't think Enable have got non-VoIP phone services working on their fibre yet and so the phone stays on the copper for now. But in my case I use Snap Plus VoIP so the copper will be completely redundant for me.

Don't create issues that haven't occurred yet. Give them a call and see what happens. If you don't get a result, THEN gripe about it. I am sure one of the people here will help take care of it for you.

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

I would say keep it there as it makes it easy to switch back in the future to cable internet/tv (which you can get up to 130/10 from) but as you have fibre now there probably isnt much chance of that happening..
