Hi guys,

Chorus have finished laying UFB on our part of the street about a week or two ago and it's showing as live and covering our place on their map.

All of the automated checkers are saying it's available until we put in the apartment number (yes, I'm aware what a pain it is getting these installed). Telecom have come back saying no to us and Snap's website is also saying no. If I leave off the apartment number both of them say yes.

The building manager (fully onboard & keen to get it live) said Vodafone said yes it was available and has signed him up with them no problems.

Is this normal? Or really can we not get it due to being in a complex? (it's really just a bunch of townhouses, not a huge high-rise)

Multi tenanted properties can be a minefield I understand. If Vodafone are saying yes then just sign up with them. There may well be multiple holdups, but at least you are then 'in the system' so some progress will be made even if it is slow.

You might need to be 'the buiilding UFB champion' pushing it through, making weekly calls to check on progress and helping things along.

I'm a litte envious. Neither home nor work are on the current rollout plan.

Yep, fully aware of how much of a pain it's going to be. In theory there's no reason why it's not available here, correct? Going to try signing up with Snap and seeing how that goes.

In the past two weeks it's gone live at home, work location 1 and location 2, and I suspect it's going to be a pain to get installed at pretty much all of them.

If they only finished digging in the cables a couple of weeks ago then it won't be live for another 6-8 weeks and the RSP can't submit an order until it goes live.

The cables were dug and laid back in April/May

Why do I say never? There are some buildings where the complexity of deploying fibre makes it incredibly complex and there are already rumours of some body corps are refusing the pay the costs associated with it.

I hope that they disclose they are a technological black hole to anyone looking at purchasing in the buildings if they are refusing to pay the costs.

I would think any sensible purchaser would look back through body corporate meeting minutes at a bare minimum for due diligence, and see it.

Wasting people's time getting to that stage. I wouldn't even want to go look at a place with a body Corp with that attitude.

Ultimately a body corp represents the people who own the apartments, and ultimately it's their money. Some hypothetical numbers I've heard being thrown around for building owner contributions are quite significant, and people who own the apartments really have the choice of paying that and having fibre, or not paying it and not having fibre.

Our BC is on board but as we don't have any numbers yet, bit hard to say how it'll be in the future.

The building is also less than three stories, so hopefully that helps.

In ten years' time when the UFB rollout is complete, that won't be over dramatic. If you chose to buy there now, you'd probably still be living there, with inferior and/or expensive broadband over copper.

In which case you'd be needing to raise the issue with the body corp. This isn't a Chorus issue - it's a body corp issue.

Exactly. The problem IS solve able, it's whether the owners can justify the cost.

Update on this: Telecom weren't being totally truthful, signed up with Snap and the building manager got the Chorus MDU consent sent in today. Chorus called me to come by 20 minutes later (really!) and were on site within the hour. Speedy!
