I have connected with telstra mainly due to to them being a primary backbone, So far it's paying off very nicely.
A pricey connection but a very high speed, consistent and reliable connectyion and no hassles having to pay "convenicence fees" to Telecom.

Youtube is always perfectly usable though second life (I'm not a fan but it's a good test) is only "usable" (and fun to hack)

Games are rock solid and interleaving is switched OFF

I am a user whom does not share or download so my usage might be different to the "leechers" though I do a lot of ripping of legal media services.

National traffic is 6Mbps, 500up

International is always at LEAST 500k both ways, this is at 7:30, aka PEAK time.

Post ISP's and min/max results please! I'm curious to see if any cheaper ones offer similarly good performance.

Done at 5:15pm Wed 1st Aug. Im on the Xnet FS/FS plan, and the router has connected to the Fendalton exchange in CHCH at 5824/896 kbps.

Consistently can max out at around 600 KB/sec on torrents, YouTube starts almost instantly and never has to pause. HTTP downloads, are around 200-300KB/sec, depending on the server. I read and hear about people moaning about slow internet etc, but I haven't experienced anything too slow.

i'm with callplus for dsl and did these at 7.46pm which is pretty much peak time

i've never really had any problems in the last 8 months, before that I did.  I moved house (and dsl exchange) about 4 months back and it didnt really affect my speed at all... i'm also using an ancient d-link dsl504 router :p

I am also on the Xnet FS/FS plan connected to the Fendalton exchange in CHCH at 7392/896 kbps but my speeds are appalling yet according to Xnet, Telecom have advised that they can see nothing wrong with their equipment.

XNet FS/128k and connected to Pakuranga exchange at 2km (we're in Edgewater).  My SNR it around 13dB, and everything correlates with being 2km away.  Connected with ADSL2+ using an RTA1320.  For the first time ever I'm getting a "slow" download speed of 2Mbps from Auckland and 660kbps from Melbourne.  It has always been around 5Mbps and 3Mbps even at peak time (and I spend a lot of time on the Internet).

Results are within 100kb/s of these anytime I run the speed tests....  Note, my plan is 4096 ks/s down and 1024 kb/s up

Extremely interesting results Unison!!!

Whereas everyone on DSL struggles to get much more than 500kbps upstream to offshore servers, you are rocking along with 4Mbps down and 1Mbps up.

It just goes to show that:

1)  Good fast broadband IS available in NZ
IF:
2)  Your ISP has a good backhaul
AND:
3)  Your ISP shells out the bucks for a decent amount of International Bandwidth

Roll on ULL and 3rd party equipment installed in Telecom's exchanges.  It just shows what can be done with a bit of investment in infrastructure.
