Hello everyone!

I am looking for assistance in compiling data on the broadband services available in the Birkdale area of Auckland.
If you live in this Suburb and are on any broadband plan could you please email me or reply to this posting with the following details?

Your ISP?
Your Plan?
The Street you live on? (for calculating distance from exchange, so if you live on a long road please state approximately where on the road)
then you will need to visit www.nzdsl.co.nz/speedtest and carry out a series of speed tests for various periods of the day, copy and paste the results into an email and send them to me.
If you are an advanced PC guru and are able to provide me with more information from your router like connected speeds and attenuation or trace route results to www.telecom.co.nz then this would be helpful also.

It is about time we made our voices heard, instead of paying money hand over fist for a bad service! while Telecom NZ declares bigger and bigger profits.

All information provided will remain anonymous Anonymous

EDIT (RC) - Removed email adddress, people can contact you via PM if they do not want to email you

Of course, the price of broadband hasn't changed. The number of people using broadband has though.

Remember, if you are with a wholesale ISP, your point of contact is with them (as you are paying them to support you).

Yes but what do you do when your wholesaler has said that both exchanges are overloaded and they can not do anything for you? do you then move from the 4th largest ISP to the 3rd and so on or do you go to the source of the problem?

I've noticed in some places that certain ISP's are more than willing to blame exchange overloading *cough*ihug and slingshot*cough* while other connections from different ISP's work fine.

ISP's can raise issues through their wholesale group (ie. Telecom wholesale)

Good luck with your plan there.

Pesonally I cannot see you getting very far, as unless you can get everyone within Birkdale to reply to you, then Telecom will probably do nothing.

Telecom wil tell you to get everyone to lodge a complaint through the proper channels, ie their ISP.
Also, unless you can get speedtest results done several times a day, for say a month, ten they will ignore those results also.

Their first advice will be to lodge a complaint as above, then they will probably ask you to check your filters, phone jacks, modems etc for faults.

Also spyware/viruses may be an issue?

All of that will need to be checked by an independent technician before Telecom will hear your voices, unless ofcourse you can get all 5,000?? connections to complain.

Of course, attacking the argument rather than the person would do miles towards establishing credibility for said argument.

Accusing people with unfounded accusations of working for telcos when they disagree with you hardly helps your cause.

How hard is see that you are a customer of your ISP and your ISP is a customer of Telecom (ie. they are selling Telecom whole internet plans).

Quite a few ISP's have been having issues delivering the 'goods', while other ISP's have had no issues. That is not nessecarily a Telecom issue, however it hasn't stopped the blame game going around and around.

been there, done that... it has been back and forth for 4 months now. I have new Lines from the road to my house, from there they replaced the internal wiring and jackpoints... then it was my modem so I bought a Linksys WAG200G, then they sent me some flash modem of theres to try. my evening consists of performing speed tests and trace routes to various NZ and International servers, then compliing it all and forwarding it to my ISP, TV3, Consumers institute and Telecon.
Still no joy....there is no point complaining individually as Telecon's official line is "there have not been enough complaints to escalate this further" even though I know at least 2 dozen people with different ISP's all in the same area who have all complained through their ISP but the ISP's must not share these complaints with each other thus enabling Telecon to make the above comment. My Exchange is listed as "Pink"

I am well aware of the statement being made, I am sorry if my tongue in cheek reply offended. this was not the intention hence the *WINK* *WINK*. I myself have worked for a bigger Telco than Telecon NZ and I am well aware of the processes and procedures in place with wholesalers and I am also aware of the games that can be played by the Monopoly Holders.... just how far away is LLU?

Well by the sounds of it, you hve already done everything you can.

If what you have done got you nowhere, then maybe you need to change ISP.

I assume that you are referring to Telecom here?

Maybe if you hate Telecom so much then you should have a look at the scum website associated to telco's in NZ

Hey heaven17,

I just spotted this (was linked to in another thread by Niel) - http://www.telecom.co.nz/binarys/adsl2_rollout_update4.pdf

I think you will be interested in the list of exchanges which'll have the upgrade started this month! It includes Birkdale.

I wanted Albany to be in there *sigh*...
