I just had a quick look from TCL cable - 210ms ping time and terrible speeds. Due to TCL's non peering policy the traffic is probably being routed via Kazakhstan!

my tests against it were poor - 1600k down, upload never started on two attempts

same time I got 5928k down and 659k up on the Auckland one and 5582k/727k against the Napier one.

incidentally i got faster speeds to new york, mexico city and yokohama than i did to wellington....

I agree Sbiddle, this is one of the slowest servers in the world :p

I tried it lastnight and got shocking speeds.

It made my 10mbps cable connection looke like dial up :D

I'm getting near enough identical download speeds to the Auckland server (just under 5000) now

4Mb/s Citylink connection.

Testing at 0815...

Wellington:
Ping: 157ms, download 4143kb/s, upload 1784kb/s

Napier:
Ping 197ms, download 4155kb/s, upload 1501kb/s

Auckland:
Ping 179ms, download 3976kb/s, upload 1932kb/s

Sydney: very similar but with latency of 75ms.

for me the Wellington connection is considerably faster than any of the others

Wellington:
Down - 24711 kb/s
Up - 17708 kb/s
Latency - 22ms

Auckland:
Down - 12784 kb/s
Up - 3266 kb/s
Latency - 36ms

Napier:
Down - 6924 kb/s
Up - 3747 kb/s
Latency - 54ms

Considering it is possible most if not all of the route between here and Wellington is high capacity backbone, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.  Surprised Auckland isn't a bit better

Good old TelstraClear... Aren't they not using the peering yet?

This is on a 10 Mbps connection:

Faster to go to LAX than to download a Linux image from the Citylink server next door.

I get similarly rubbish downloads via my TCL cable b/b from Wellington.  But trying citylink's own speedtest  - http://www.citylink.co.nz/services/speedtest10.html shows a good connection.  Shows you that these speed tests really can't be relied on.

Lol  I get rubbish from Auckland (I am IN Auckland) and Wellington, and check out Napier!  I am on XTRA, just goes to show how you shouldn't rely on these tests.
The only consistency seems to be upload.

Auckland
1512 kb/s Down
641 kb/s Up

Wellington
395 kb/s Down
594 kb/s Up

Napier
5995 kb/s Down
638 kb/s Up
