I like game alot and am mostly digital so huge game file downloads are the norm.

Looking for a good cheap isp plan, preferably unlimited. (no ufb in my area yet)

More information needed, like do you need POTS or VOIP or just want naked. If you want naked are you on a mobile plan or would you consider one, because a few ISPs offer discounts if you have an on account mobile plan. Also are you looking for VDSL or just ADSL?

Personally I'd look at what Bigpipe or snap are offering.

I have a Vodafone on account plan.

No home phone as I don't need one and it's much easier and cheaper to just contact people via mobile.

Best,Cheap, Unlimited... your putting so many eggs in the basket...

Bigpipe i suppose would be your best bet.

Ild go snap otherwise personally, but then, they dont fit your cheap margin.

vdsl never means lower latency. DLM-1 still has 2ms there over ADSL with interleaving off...

vdsl does give you a sizeable amount more upstream to play with however, which can often give a perceived lower latency

Good and cheap? Sure you can do that, provided you only care about the broadband and customer service and are not interested in any of the other things most other providers seem to enjoy tacking on. We don't do anything else. So that means no free modem (you can get one cheap on trademe, or buy a good quality one yourself), no free email accounts, no phone lines, no free sky box, no free cloud storage etc etc. Just broadband.

Bigpipe (us!), $79 for unlimited naked ADSL2, or $89 for unlimited naked VDSL. No term contract, first month free. No fair use policy, no shaping of P2P etc

Wow iinet is bad the entire day.

I'm thinking of Vodafone. $85 for unlimited vdsl and free modem and install sounds good.

Bigpipe also looks good but is more expensive for only a 4% increase in service over 24 hours.

Would anyone know of any special offers that are limited timed? When I was in Australia there were isp offering gaming consoles and everything to sign new consumers.

Alternatively as a relatively new ISP you have a decent amount of initial bandwidth and hardly any customers (good contention ratio) that will worsen as you add more and more customers (because of bean counters)

iiNet is an Australian ISP. Not sure why they are included there - maybe for comparison purposes since Australian broadband is generally pretty terrible compared to NZ broadband.

We're not that new.

Bus basically our 'no frills' approach means we can allocate a lot more $$$$ our of your monthly bill to things like international bandwidth than other ISPs instead of spending it on stuff like complex billing systems, subsidised set top boxes, modems (and all the people required to manage them) etc.
