Hi all,

Just wondering what kind of DDoS Protection an ISP should provide for its customers, in this case residential.

I would have thought that ISPs would have had border protection against DDoS with scrubbers so that their customers don't get bombarded.

Unless you've specifically paid for it I wouldn't expect anything at all for a residential connection. ISPs protecting their network is another issue entirely.

I got told by Snap technical support that my connection received a DDoS attack and that it was affecting their network.

They also said that if I continued to receive DDoS attacks they would look into suspending or even cancelling my connection.

DDoS attacks against gamers are a pretty common occurrence, it seems many like to annoy other people online.

Didn't think I would need one. It's quite messed up that an ISP which claims that its network is being affected wouldn't have DDoS protection.

Hmmm... guessing if your IP can be determined then you're a console/twitch (server-less hosting) gamer?

Nope. Haven't console gamed in a long time, and others in the house don't console game very often. It's mostly PC gaming with dedicated servers.

Lots of gamers all around the world have them to protect themselves, it's why they exist. Snap customers are no exception. Change ISPs if you want, you won't have your issues fixed though.

Unless it's static?

Some games still send P2P data even if the core game is running through a dedicated server.

I think you'll find that no one is really DDoS protected. Well, I guess it depends on your definition of DDoS protection.

theres also the oh so common, abuse steam voice chat P2P feature too.

finding somones ip is simple, tools like LOIC make script kiddies feel powerful... and dont even get me started on the overuse of pingbacks from wordpress...

Ild simply apologize for it happening to snap, see if you can narrow down exactly who in the house encouraged it and see if they cant shed some light.. maybe have a talk with everyone, and suggest they dont bait any sort of attack. Short of that your kinda buggered in terms of options..

a pretty common one i have been seeing recently, is people who get into competitive games, feel there is a player on the other team doing something unfair, and decide to try to "level the field"

its a disgusting habit, but unfortunately is becoming more common.

Im personally linked with a few server communitys out there, at its worst, the huge amounts of bandwidth usage there was really questioning if its even worth continuing..
