Vibe Communications announced today that it will be offering the full suite of Megaport IX services from any one of 7 Auckland Datacentres though it’s partnership with the Australian elastic bandwidth powerhouse.

Vibe and Megaport announced last week that the parties had entered into an Open Alliance Partner Agreement which would see Vibe offer Megaport services in New Zealand as well as extend Megaport capability into various metro locations throughout New Zealand via Vibe’s IntelliPath subsidiary which allows customers to build connectivity between datacentres is near real-time on a pay as you go basis.

Using IntelliPath, customers can extend their networks via virtual cross connect to the Megaport IX in Auckland, providing full access to all peering and content partners in the MegaPort and IntelliPath Ecosystems. In addition customers can order a virtual cross connect across the Tasman to any of the MegaPort IX’s in Australia, allowing New Zealand carriers or enterprises to exchange traffic directly between the likes of Google, Amazon and many others. Connecting to these services is done in near real-time via the IntelliPath online portal. “Google & YouTube currently accounts for around half of most New Zealand Service Provider’s itnernational network utilisation and by allowing them to connect directly to these peers in near real time offers significant potential savings” claims Rudi Hefer, CEO of Vibe Communications.

“in addition to creating the capability to connect to exchanges rich in content and peers, IntelliPath allows customers to change their capacity, architecture and term of their service at the click of a button with real time visibility of cost.” says Hefer . “Some of the real challenges with peering in New Zealand is the limitation in the locations that peering can be accessed as well as the lack of major content owners and content distributors that have made it to New Zealand shores. Megaport breaks down those barriers and creates a seemless environment to content and services provided throughout the Megaport Fabric. All of this whilst reducing the overall cost to the peer by around 30% when compared to traditional domestic and trans-Tasman peering alternatives.”

IntelliPath will be available in the second week of November 2014 with Megaport IX services following shirtly thereafter.

We'll be live on this platform in February 2015.

Will be interesting to see if Citylink bothers to compete with this. They charge in excess of $1k a month for a 10Gbps port on APE.

It will be interesting to see if performance improvements are visible from this.

Megaport IX services following shirtly thereafter.

Good to hear they will be well dressed.

Edit: On a more serious note, does anyone have some details on how large/prominent/etc vibe is as a company? i thought they were just a small reseller, is this them making a big play to make it big?

eXDee- Vibe is a wholesale service provider and carrier service provider. We have a comprehensive Wholesale proposition with full integration into LFC's for self provisioning of broadband and voice services. We also operate our own International data network with nodes in SY1 and SY3 in Sydney, San Jose in CA, 1 Wilshire LA and LINX in London.

According to Hurricane Electric (http://bgp.he.net/country/NZ) we're the best connected New Zealand ISP.

We're always up for a chat if you want to know more.

As for shirtly, my bad. And no we dress terribly at Vibe :-)

And probably should have added that we're big enough to matter and small enough to care :-) The IX's belong to Megaport and our IntelliPath brand will be the on demand transport service that will connect to Megaport from any of our Auckland nodes and around 7 additional nodes after that.

Oh layer2! That's a more familiar name I've seen pop up in a few routes. You're bigger than I thought then.

Why hasn't such an announcement made it onto NZNOG mailing list out of interest?

Yeah Vibe Communications LTD (Retail) has two subsidiary, Layer 2 Co LTD (Wholesale) and IntelliPath (Bandwidth on Demand).
You can see downstream customers of Layer 2 on http://ispmap.co.nz/realtime.php?asn=45177 , a few bigger downstreams in the pipe line, we are also creeping into the Australian transit market too :)

Maxnet no longer exists, it's Vocus.
Vocus is an Australian entity hence why it doesnt show under NZ.

Maxnet does exist. As a residential ISP it's still there and operating. But you're right about it being owned by the Aussies.
