Afternoon all,

hmm, ok, I'll get to the introduction page later this arvo. Here's a curious thing perhaps as a starter also.

I've just had the awesome Downer guy here checking my line, sure I had a wee cable joint that was a little corroded, yet no improvement in my speeds. Now I'm not sure where the problem might be. I have a nice new three day old connection to iHug's Broadband 2 plan..yeah 5GB should be enough for a starter :)

Any ideas from these stats from my modem - it's a D-Link DSL-302G

Attenuation is 24dB downstream and 53dB upstream
SNR is 31dB downstream and 45dB upstream

Yet my modem has consistently shown connection rates of 160Kb/s in both directions.

The Downer engineer can no longer see any fault in my line and his friend back at the exchange also seemed to think it tested fine.

I'm not sure if it could be the modem itself, we've tried isolating it to no avail, or the connection I've been given at the exchange.
Apparently I'll have another engineer visiting with his own modem and laptop to try and get to the bottom of it in the next day or so, maybe I should just wait.

Curious if anyone has any ideas...Oh, yeah, and I'm in Whangarei, about 1.5KM from the exchange.

EDIT: Hehe, I took my modem around to a friend's house, same kinda distance from the exchange, similar SNR and attenuation (actually, my SNR is a little better) and it gets a nice 768Kb/s downstream..well not too bad, but it is a slingshot connection ;)

So I don't know what has been done in activating either my account at iHug, or at the exchange but somethings hinky...hehe, I don't see any compensation coming my way when it finally gets sorted though :)

Righto.

Thanks in advance,
I've just stumbled across this site and now I'm off to have a wee look around.

Ta,
Mikey

How many telephone ext have you got ?

Hey wmoore,

thank you and yep; we tried the isolation wotsit before we called in the issue. At this point it is trending towards one of those, between screen and chair, issues that we have all suffered and caused ;)

Nice to be here by the way, and righto, with the Warriors impending...'am I going to see a home Semi-Final?' question to be answered and a lazy Sunday before I'm expecting any tech contact. I think I'l be fine dribbling along at 160Kb/s :)

Have a great weekend.

Ta,
Mikey
