Can you be a bit more specific on what modem Netgear router you are using? Is it an older Netgear PCMCIA card router or is it the new Netgear 814 that requires the IPW modem?

Are you trying to connect via the wireless network, or are you directly connecting to the router via a cable?

one difference between Windows and Linux is drivers are usually product specific in Windows. But in Linux we have more generic ie chipset/technology/protocol -specific drivers. Fewer, but more generic drivers is the basic difference. ie, don't google search for "linux driver download" because the driver is already in the system, you just need to know the trick ;-)

If the modem has an RJ45 Ethernet network connection, forget about drivers because it's (probably) talking PPP over Ethernet.

turn it on, plug it in, open a terminal and run "sudo pppoeconf"
that should get you in business hopefully.

Good luck
