What do the letters IC mean in purple?

Got a letter in the mailbox recently saying UFB would be coming to the street as of yesterday, but no work has started yet. But looking this morning, I see the letters I C painted right outside my house.
So just for curiosity sake, what do those letters mean?

We too have purple paint around our area.
No idea what it means, but the digging looks like it is beginning :)

That's where they will tack the fiber to the footpath as it's now too expensive to put it underground.

Oh so its going on poles then? There are also purple dots going along the footpath to the grey Telecom PVC tube thing (don't know its official name) which is near the corner of my section. Maybe they are digging that bit up?

Generally the writing on the street relates to the exisiting services,

(The colour code used in out street was)

Purple is exisitng chorus services, blue is water pipes and orange is underground power cables

Its to help with the thrust-boring that will be done,

As above.
Proir to doing UFB work contractors get existing services marked out so they can avoid damaging them during their own trenching or boring programs.

Colour wise purple/violet is used for telco services, and orange typically for power, with other colours for water, stormwater, waste water (sewer) and gas. Different councils and contractors may use different colours for the same thing.

Letters (& numbers) may be added to indicate cable types (copper, fibre, pairs etc), ducting, conduit or cable numbers, start/end points etc. Again these can be owner, council, or contractor specific.

So if you're not getting fibre in your street then someone else is planning to be doing maintenance on your footpath.

IC is actualy 1C as in one directly buried cable, 2C would be to cable etc / 1D is one duct / the Purple colour generaly indicates that it is Chorus cable
