At long last, by the end of the year, there will be an Independent Telecommunications Dispute Watchdog Service, known as the Disputes Resolution Services will be setup for consumers who maybe unhappy with the resolution offered to them by ISP or Telco.

Companies that have signed up so far include the following; CallPlus (includes Slingshot), Orcon, Telecom, TelstraClear, Vodafone (includes ihug) and WorldxChange have signed up and will split the running costs based on the number and complexity of complaints heard against them.

Note to Admins: Sorry, I could not make the link a hyperlink, for some strange reason, the options extra options for adding hyperlinks, bold type & smilies etc does not always appear when I make posts, any idea why?

The question I'd love to know is whether this ombudsman will have any teeth when it comes to the ability to get things done.

I mean, right now, I'm downloading off Sun's website at 5-8k/s at 2:58am - I can download off the very same site at uni at 800KB/s, and it wasn't too long ago when I could get close to 400KB/s on this very connection.

I believe it will be as useful as the master builders and similar organizations that exist solely to waste your time complaining to them before going to the disputes tribunal, to hopefully make taking things further too much effort.

Sounds like it; annoy the people so much they eventually give up.
